How To Backup Your Minecraft Server

How To Backup Your Minecraft Server

Whether you’re fixing corruption, griefed builds, or simply want to roll back – restoring your Minecraft server is a piece of cake! You have the option to restore the entire server or specific worlds, depending on what you want. You’re also given the ability to download any of the files to your computer as a personal backup copy. In this Nitrado guide, we’ll show you how to create and restore backups on your Minecraft server 👏

    Server Backups

These backups contain all the server files, including worlds, mods, configs, and more. Your server automatically creates these backups every day, without you having to do anything. Follow these instructions only if you want to restore your entire server to a previous backup:

    1. Head towards your Nitrado Web Interface for your Minecraft server.
    2. Navigate to Tools > Restore Backup from the left of your Dashboard.
      Nitrado Restore Backup
    3. Locate your desired backup, indicated by the time it was created.
      Nitrado Restore Backup Guide
    4. Once found, click Restore on the right to load it.

    World Backups

Instead of restoring the entire server, you can choose specific worlds instead. We also allow you to manually create backups of your world too. Whether you’re on Vanilla, Spigot, Paper, Forge, or Fabric, you have the power to create and restore world backups. Follow these steps:

    1. Navigate to Tools > World Manager from your Nitrado Web Interface.
      Nitrado World Manager
    2. Locate your desired world, then click Create a Backup on the right.
      Nitrado Backup World
    3. When completed, it will be shown in the World Backups area below.

    4. Simply click Restore on the right when you want.

    Manual Backups

For those who want copies of their worlds or other server files, you can download / upload by using FTP clients. We strongly recommend FileZilla Client or CyberDuck for this process. When you’re ready, review the steps below.

    1. In your Nitrado Web Interface, locate FTP Credentials from the Dashboard.
    2. Copy the Hostname, Port, Username, and Password fields.
      Nitrado FTP Login
    3. Open FileZilla or CyberDuck, then enter each field accordingly to login.
      FileZilla FTP Login
    4. Once successfully logged in, navigate to your main directory.
      (e.g. minecraft, minecraftotherpacks, minecraftbukkit, etc.)
    5. You should see your world folders and other files, download any of them.
      FTP Minecraft World Files
    6. Save these files on your computer as a backup, which can be used to restore later.
    7. When you wish to restore, simply drag + drop the files in the same directory.
We recommend that you delete the older files in the server, then upload your backup.

    Manage Your Minecraft Server

Whether you’re downloading files to your computer, restoring the entire server, or making backups of specific worlds, your Nitrado Minecraft server allows you to do all of that. We give you full control over the files and make it easy to manage your worlds. Just make sure to not mistakenly restore a world or delete important files.
