When you’re out in the harsh world on your DayZ server, you’ll encounter zombies at every turn and occasionally other players who want to raid you. When that happens, we recommend that you take friends along who will help you gather resources, build a shelter, and craft powerful weapons. But what if your friends play on a different platform? This is where crossplay comes in, making it possible to play together on different platforms. But does DayZ support crossplay? In this guide, we will cover DayZ crossplay, the limitations, and how to get started with friends on a server!
What is Crossplay?
The term cross play or cross-platform gaming is becoming more and more important to players. If you have a certain game on PC and a friend has the same game on PlayStation and you can just play together, that’s of course, a fantastic experience. This brings us straight to the heart of the matter, as crossplay describes the ability to easily play the same game together on different platforms. PC, Xbox, and PlayStation are often mentioned in the context of crossplay, but cross play can also affect the Nintendo Switch. Examples of cross-play games including ARK: Survival Evolved, Astroneer, and Farming-Simulator 22.
Is it Possible to Play DayZ Cross-Platform?
Unfortunately, it is not possible to play DayZ with other consoles or platforms. If you want to play DayZ with your friends, you must own the game on the same platform. This affects the owners of all versions.
Now, you might be wondering if the developers at Bohemia Interactive have plans to implement cross play in DayZ at a later date. Again, we don’t have good news. Bohemia Interactive understands cross play is becoming increasingly important and they are generally interested in enabling crossplay in DayZ.
However, there are no concrete plans at the moment. It is critical to understand that there are many factors to consider here. The technology is a big hurdle here because the game versions of all platforms, i.e., PC, Xbox, and PlayStation would have to be uniform and compatible. Even if there were to be an announcement here in the future, it would likely take some time to integrate crossplay. That said, we’re still cheering alongside other players that it’ll be implemented in the future for DayZ!
Why Not Having DayZ Crossplay is A Good Thing
One advantage concerns first-person shooters, like DayZ. In this case, PC gamers have a general advantage because they play with a keyboard and mouse, which is a big advantage, especially for fast precise movements like aiming. Of course, you could minimize this advantage by using aiming aids on the console, but here games have already shown that it is complicated to make this difference of input devices really fair. If the aiming aid on the consoles is too strong, it can look like an aimbot, which puts PC players at a disadvantage. This could lead to them resorting to unfair methods again.
This brings us directly to another advantage of not using cross-play. We are talking about cheats and the like, including the utilization of glitches and such. It is generally known that shooters, especially on the PC, always have problems with hackers. Even well-known soccer games such as FIFA deal with a difficult fight against glitches, especially this year on PC. This in turn leads to the fact that players of the console versions are very frustrated and voluntarily give up crossplay or actively disable crossplay. So, you see, cross play is a great feature but it can also cause massive issues in certain situations and games.
Have Even More Fun with Friends Without Crossplay
You now know exactly about the current state of DayZ and crossplay. At first glance, it seems a shame that DayZ doesn’t offer crossplay. However, if you take a closer look, you should ask yourself if it’s not such a bad thing that DayZ doesn’t currently offer crossplay.
