    Dune: Awakening – Game Client Adjustments

    Dune: Awakening – Game Client Adjustments

    We offer a wide range of settings to customize the experience on your Dune: Awakening server. While making these changes to your game server is quick and easy, some settings also require changes to the game client. In this Nitrado guide, we will walk you through the process of updating your local files to ensure your building limits and cooldowns function correctly for all players.

    Client-Server Communication

    The game client runs its own internal checks to display warnings or error messages when specific limits are reached. In the 1.3.20 version of Dune: Awakening, the values for building limits, land claim segments, and backup cooldowns are not automatically communicated from the server to the client.

    This means that even if your server allows an action, the game client may still prevent it because it’s checking against default values. Manually adjusting your client configuration will make your local game recognize the custom rules you have set on the server.

    Effectively, you want both the client and server to match. If you change building limits, then you need to ensure that it’s applied to both your client and server. Without doing that, it will cause problems.

    Editing Your Server Options

    Nitrado Dune: Awakening Game Client Adjustments
    You must adjust the individual settings in your Web Interface based on your local configuration. This way the client and server are in sync and will not cause issues.

    • m_bBuildingRestrictionLimitsEnabled: Set this to True if you want limits enforced, or False to disable them.
    • m_MaxNumLandclaimSegments: Enter the specific number that matches your Maximum Land Claim Segments setting.
    • m_BaseBackupToolTimeRestrictionInSeconds: Input the Base Backup Cooldown value in seconds.

    Once finished, save the changes and double-check it was saved properly. Make sure you share these specific values with your players so everyone can enjoy the same unrestricted experience.

    Locating Your Config Files

    All configuration changes should be performed while the game is closed. Navigate to the following folder on your PC to begin:

    C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\DuneSandbox\Saved\Config\WindowsClient

    Pro Tip: Always create a backup of your Game.ini file before editing. If any errors occur during the process, you can quickly restore the original file to resume play.

    Editing the Game.ini File

    Updating your local configuration ensures that your personal game client respects the custom boundaries you have established. Follow these steps to modify your settings:

    1. Open the Game.ini file with a text editor such as Notepad or Notepad++.
    2. Check if the file already includes a section titled [/Script/DuneSandbox.BuildingSettings].
    3. If the section exists, update the values. If it does not, add the following block to the file:
      [/Script/DuneSandbox.BuildingSettings]
      m_bBuildingRestrictionLimitsEnabled=False
      m_MaxNumLandclaimSegments=20
      m_BaseBackupToolTimeRestrictionInSeconds=60

    Reverting Changes for Official Servers

    If you decide to play on an unmodified or official server after making these changes, you might notice “ghost” actions where the client thinks a move is legal but the server rejects it without an error message. To quickly revert your settings without deleting them, simply place a semicolon (;) at the start of each line. This comments out the code, telling the game to ignore your custom values and return to defaults.

    By aligning both your local and server configurations, you’ve ensured no issues will arise. If you ever make changes again, double-check that you’ve also done it for the client and server. With this in mind, it’s time for your journey to continue across the desert! Invite your friends and jump into your own Dune: Awakening server.
