Minecraft EssentialsX Guide

Working on your Spigot / Paper Minecraft server involves setting up plugins, which can handle all sorts of various features. Fortunately, EssentialsX is an all-in-one plugin that gives you tools to create an economy, allow teleportation, player commands, chat formats, nicknames, and so much more.

This is considered a foundation plugin, meaning that it’s used across different server types because it’s really good for admins and users. With this in mind, we’ve created this Nitrado guide to show you how to install and use EssentialsX on your Minecraft server 👏
 

EssentialsX & Add-ons

We recommend downloading and using add-ons for EssentialsX, which includes chat, spawn, and basic world protection features. These are optional, but may provide extra support for your Minecraft server. For this guide, we will only focus on the main features provided by EssentialsX. Besides that, here is the list of recommended add-ons by Nitrado:

How to Install

1. Head towards your Nitrado Web Interface for the Minecraft server.
2. Navigate to Tools > File Browser on the left from your Dashboard.
   
3. Enter minecraftbukkit / plugins, then click Upload File on the right.
   
4. Select the EssentialsX file you downloaded and wait for it to upload.
5. Repeat this process for any add-ons, then restart the server.

Configuration Options

Once the plugin is installed, a folder named Essentials will appear within your plugins directory. You can edit the settings by navigating to Tools > File Browser > minecraftbukkit > plugins > EssentialsX > config.yml. Clicking the file name will open an editor directly in your browser.

Player Experience Settings

Default player permissions and basic spawning behaviors define how a user starts their adventure. Within the config.yml, locate the spawnpoint settings to dictate exactly where new arrivals stand when they join for the first time. To help new players get started, find the kits section to provide starter tools automatically upon their first login.

Teleportation Settings

Instant movement across vast distances can disrupt survival mechanics or be exploited during player combat. To manage this, locate the teleport settings in the configuration file:

• Teleport Delay: Adjust the teleport-delay field to force players to stand still for a specific number of seconds before a warp activates.
• Cooldowns: Set a value in the teleport-cooldown field to prevent players from spamming commands to escape danger.

Chat and Nickname Settings

A cluttered chat window makes communication difficult for both players and moderators. To organize your server chat:

• Navigate to the essentials-chat section.
• Modify the format line to alter how player prefixes, names, and messages appear globally.
• Change the max-nick-length variable to set a hard cap on how long custom player names can be, ensuring tags remain legible in the chat box.
