Essentials Protect – Minecraft Plugin Guide

Essentials Protect – Minecraft Plugin Introduction

Throughout Minecraft server hosting, players around the world come together to build wondrous creations. From magnificent mansions to underground bases. Sometimes, other users may cause trouble by trying to use lava and TNT to destroy the builds. Therefore, it’s important to protect against these dangers to keep your players happy and their builds safe. This can be done with the Essentials Protect Minecraft plugin, adding a mighty assortment of protective and preventive features to your server.

    Minecraft Essentials Protect plugin guide

The Plugin is unmatched, working alongside the EssentialsX plugin to offer features like disabling creeper explosions, fire spread, PvP, and more. Alongside its features, the plugin’s detailed plugin configuration files and permissions make it easy to set up. You can follow us below as we show you how to install and set up the EssentialsX Protect plugin on your Minecraft game server!

    Installing Essentials Protect Plugin

The EssentialsX Protect plugin is an addon plugin for the EssentialsX plugin. EssentialsX, previously known as Essentials, is a Spigot and Paper Minecraft plugin designed for Minecraft versions 1.8 to the latest versions like 1.19.3.

For the plugin to work, the Essentials core plugin is also required. While it does require an additional plugin, Essentials provides enormous benefits for server owners including over 130 commands and countless quality-of-life features. Keeping that in mind, you are now ready to install Essentials and Essentials Protect on your server!

    1. Firstly, head to the Essentials website download page.
    2. On that site, you’ll need to press “Download” next to EssentialsX and EssentialsX Protect, as well as any other Essentials plugins you’d like to try.

    4. After downloading those plugins, go on your server webinterface and stop your server.
    5. Once your server is offline, on the left under “Tools”, click “File Browser”.
    6. Inside your server files, go to the location /minecraftbukkit/plugins/.
    7. how to upload a Minecraft plugin to your server

    8. Next, press “Upload file”, locate the Essentials plugins, select them, and then press “Open” to begin uploading them to your server.
    9. Finally, after those plugins have finished uploading, start your Minecraft server to load them!

    Configuration Guide

The configuration section is jam-packed with options to fully protect your server. These settings are broken down into three sections, Prevention, Spawning, and Disable.

To access these settings, you’ll need to edit your Essentials config.yml file found in your server files at the location /minecraftbukkit/plugins/Essentials/. Once you’re viewing the file, you can scroll down to around lines 900-950 to find the “EssentialsX Protect” section. You’re now ready to begin editing your Essentials configuration options!

    Essentials Protect server config settings

    Prevention

The prevent section is a major part of the plugin, allowing you to prevent everything from fire spread to water flow, fireball explosions, creeper explosions, and more. You can disable an option by setting it to true.

For example, if you set “creeper-blockdamage: false” to “creeper-blockdamage: true”, creepers would no longer be able to destroy blocks when exploding. That is just the start of over 40 different prevention measures you can take to protect your Minecraft server!

    Spawning

Still inside the “prevent” section under the regular prevention settings, you can find options to stop mob spawning for certain mobs. You could disable Zombie Pigman for an easier time in the Nether or even all hostile mobs in general for a safer game session with friends. Just like the previous prevent options, you can disable mob spawning of a mob by setting it to true. In this example, we have prevented the spawning of creepers, skeletons, zombies, and ghasts.

    Disable Features

Providing another shield for your server, Essential Protect includes additional damage protection settings for you and your players. These options include disabling fall damage, pvp, drowning, suffocation, lava damage, fire damage, and even weather. Accessible at the bottom of the EssentialsX Protect configuration section, to prevent a particular type of damage you can change that option to true. Below, we’ll show you an example of disabling fall and pvp damage.

After changes have been made, press save changes. Finally, go on your Minecraft Live Server Console and type /essentials reload to refresh the Essentials configuration and become protected!

    Permissions for Essentials Protect

Similar to other Minecraft plugins, Essentials Protect includes built-in permissions. The permissions included allow players to bypass the protection options set up. For example, if EssentialsX Protect has pvp disabled and a player has the essentials.protect.pvp permission, they’ll be able to pvp with other players who have the same permissions.

When you’re setting up Minecraft server permissions, we recommend the plugin LuckPerms. With its versatility and easy-to-setup webinterface, it is the perfect permissions plugin to use alongside EssentialsX Protect! Once you have a permissions plugin, you can set the below permissions.

    Permission Description
essentials.protect.entitytarget.bypass If mob targeting for players is disabled, allows a player to become targeted by mobs.
essentials.protect.pvp When pvp is disabled, with this permission a player will be able to pvp. Both attackers and defenders will need this permission to bypass the disabled pvp.
essentials.protect.damage.disable If added to a player, prevents them from dying.
essentials.protect.damage.contact Players will receive contact damage, bypassing the prevent options.
essentials.protect.damage.creeper Players will be damaged by creepers, even if creeper explosion damage is disabled.
essentials.protect.damage.drowning Players will drown, bypassing disabled drown damage.
essentials.protect.damage.fall Players can experience fall damage, bypassing fall damage prevention.
essentials.protect.damage.fire Players will get burned even with fire damage being disabled.
essentials.protect.damage.fireball Players can be hurt by fireballs, bypassing disabled fireball damage.
essentials.protect.damage.lava Players can burn in lava, no longer being safe if lava damage is disabled.
essentials.protect.damage.lightning Players will be hurt if hit by lightning, going around any lightning protection that’s set up.
essentials.protect.damage.projectiles Players can be damaged by projectiles like arrows, bypassing projectile protections.
essentials.protect.damage.suffocation Players can suffocate, bypassing the plugin’s prevent option.
essentials.protect.damage.tnt Players can be hurt by TNT, ignoring any TNT damage prevention settings.
