First Time Configuration of SCUM Servers

Every SCUM server starts as a blank patch of prison island, and getting it named, secured, and tuned right sets the tone before your first prisoner lands. In this Nitrado guide, we’ll show you how to configure your SCUM server for the first time, from the basic details to the deeper settings tabs.

Stop Your Server Before You Make Changes

Log into your Nitrado Web Interface and open your SCUM service. Before you touch any setting, stop the server: SCUM keeps its settings in a runtime cache while it’s live, so changes only save once the server is stopped.

Note: The Web Interface does not accept settings changes while the server is running.

Use the Stop server button at the top right of the page, and wait for the status to update before continuing.

Set Your Server Name, Password, and Max Players

Open Settings > General in your Web Interface. The Main card holds the core details for your SCUM server.

• Server name: the name players see in the SCUM server browser.
• Server password: set one if you want to keep your island private.
• Max Players: limited by the slots on your plan, and can’t go higher than 128.

Save your changes, then use the Restart server button to apply them.

Browse the Deeper Settings Tabs

The Search for settings … bar jumps straight to a setting by name, or you can work through the tab row: ALL, MAIN, GENERAL, WORLD, HUNT, RESPAWN, VEHICLES, DAMAGE, FEATURES, QUESTS, RAID-PROTECTION, SQUAD-LEAVE-PENALTY, ITEM VIRTUALIZATION, WIPE, and BACKUP. Each tab groups the settings for that part of your island., and each setting has a short description letting you know what each setting does in the game.

Turn on Show internal names (like in the configuration file) if you want each setting labeled with its config file key. It’s a quick way to match what you see on the page to what you’ll find in ServerSettings.ini.

Edit the Same Settings in Config Files

Prefer working directly in the file? Open Settings > Config Files and select ServerSettings.ini from the file dropdown. The same settings from the General page appear here as flat keys, each prefixed scum.. The server still needs to be stopped before you edit and save.

Use Reload file, Download, or Save changes once you’re done, then restart the server to apply your edits.

The Island Is Yours to Run

Your SCUM server now has a name, a password if you want one, and player limits tuned to your plan. From here, every prisoner who lands on your island plays by settings you chose, restart after restart. Next, set up admin access so you can step in whenever the island needs a warden.
