Minecraft is filled with wonders and excitement to experience. From unique mobs to diverse biomes, bosses, and rare items to find. When it comes to Minecraft though, the game doesn’t have to stop at just the regular version. There is a way to enhance Minecraft gameplay by installing Minecraft mods to take your world and Minecraft server to the next level.
Minecraft mods are enhancements that change or modify the game to add new mobs, biomes, world types, items, blocks, and more. Imagine everything from dragons flying across the sky, catching every Pokemon, or even going through the dangerous Twilight Forest filled with exploration. Ready to start your own modded adventure? Before you can install mods in Minecraft, you’ll need to find and download mods. There are several reliable websites where you can download Minecraft mods. We recommend using these sites to find Minecraft server mods:
On CurseForge, as an example, you can use categories such as “World Gen”, “Technology”, and “Magic” to find mods. Additionally, there is a search bar and filters at the top to search for specific mod names, versions, and how to sort the mods. Once you have found the mods you’d like to use, the next step is to download those mods.
It’s time to download mods but before you do, it’s important to know what version you’d like to run the mods on. Are you looking for mods for version 1.12.2, 1.16.5, or maybe 1.19.2? With the many versions of Minecraft available, ensure that you know which version you’ll be going with. In our examples, we’ll be downloading 1.19.2 mods to install on a Forge 1.19.2 Minecraft server.
On a mod’s download page, you can find specific versions to download by clicking on the “Files” or “Versions” tab of that mod page:
In that tab, you’ll then see downloads for different versions of that mod. For the Mouse Tweaks mod, there are versions available for the latest 1.19.2 but also older versions that would work on a 1.4.2 server.
Once you have found the version that’ll match the Minecraft server version you’ll be running, you can press the “Download” or down arrow button next to that. Pressing that will start the Minecraft mod download. Repeat this for each mod you’d like to download and install.
We recommend placing each mod that you download into a safe folder on your computer. After downloading all of those Minecraft mods, you’re now ready to install them!
To play those mods on your Minecraft game, they’ll need to be installed there too. We’ll show you exactly how to install Minecraft mods to your game!
With those mods now installed on your game and Minecraft server, you’re ready to join your server and begin playing! Are you interested in trying a modpack or creating your own? You can continue below to learn how!
When it comes to modded Minecraft, mods are just the beginning. If multiple mods are combined, this can create a modpack. In the universe of modded Minecraft, modpacks are tailored to provide players with unique game experiences to complete objectives, survive, and win. Have you set everything up but mods do not seem like they’re working? Due to how technical mods can be, there are quite a number of issues that can occur with them. Below, we will cover each possible mod issue you can experience and how to fix them.
Previously in this guide, we covered the importance of installing the same Forge version for your server and your Minecraft game. If the same Forge version isn’t installed on both, this will cause an “incorrect Forge version” error. To fix this, we recommend following the steps again to install Forge and mods to your server and game. Once the Forge versions are matching, you’ll no longer experience this issue.
A mod version mismatch error occurs when the mods installed on your server do not match the mods installed on your game. This can either be due to the mods not being the same versions or one of them having mods that are not on the other. Along with the mod files causing this issue, the mod config files can also experience the same problem of not matching.
To best resolve this issue we recommend removing all of the mods and modded config files from your Minecraft game, downloading all of the mods and config files off of your server, and then uploading them to your game. After you do this, ensuring the mods and config files match, you’ll now be able to join your modded server without any mismatch errors!
The duplicate mods error is one that occurs if multiple of the same mod is on your game or Minecraft server. When many mods are installed on a server, it can be easy to accidentally upload a mod a second time. To fix this issue, find and remove the duplicate mods from your game and/or Minecraft server. Once the duplicate mods are removed, you will no longer experience this error.
Since mods can be quite technical, certain mods can often require another mod to load correctly. If a mod requires another mod that isn’t installed, this can cause a missing mod dependency error. When installing mods, it’s important to check and ensure all required mods are installed if a mod needs them.
To best fix these types of errors, we recommend checking your server’s “Live Server Console” for errors that may indicate which mods are missing. You can also check through your mods to see if anything is missing. After the dependencies that are missing are installed, all of the mods will then work on your Minecraft game and/or server.
Server crashing is a type of issue that occurs for many reasons. The most common reasons are that either Forge isn’t installed properly or that the mods on your server are not installed properly.
To begin fixing this type of issue, we recommend following each of the “Common Minecraft Mod Issues” listed above, as any one of those issues can stop a modded server from starting. If following those steps does not help, we recommend reinstalling Forge and then installing the Minecraft mods again on the Minecraft server. During that process, ensure there are no duplicate mods and that any dependencies are installed. Once everything on your server is correct, it will start up properly.
During the start-up of a modded server, it is possible for a server to get stuck while loading. The most common reason this occurs is when an important modded file change occurs, such as a mod being added or removed. Doing this can cause issues with your Minecraft world and so we recommend always taking a backup and being careful when making these changes.
Quite often, you can go to the “Live Server Console” on your Minecraft server webinterface and type the command “fml confirm” to continue the server start-up. This confirms that you’d like to take the risks of the change that was made and start up your server. After a few moments, your server will start.
Are you ready to experience your modded Minecraft adventure? Taking only a bit of time to prepare, mods will bring about a new revamped experience to Minecraft for you and your friends. From deadly worlds filled with new creatures to mystical swords that can slay any boss that gets in your way, there is a lot to explore. Try installing mods to your Minecraft server and create the ultimate modded journey for all!
