How to Show Coordinates in Minecraft Servers

How to Show Coordinates in Minecraft Servers

Exploring the wonders of Minecraft is an epic adventure, especially with friends – but can often lead to being lost. With its endless world generation, losing track of your base or trying to find specific areas can be challenging. Due to this, knowing exactly where you are in-game is the ultimate tool for your journey. This comes in the form of coordinates, indicating precisely your character’s position. Whether you’re on Minecraft Java or Bedrock Edition, you have the power to show coords. In this Nitrado tutorial, we’ll explain how to do this and the advantages of seeing coordinates in Minecraft. Let’s begin!

    Minecraft: Java Edition

Players on Java have more opportunities to show coordinates in Minecraft, as it can be done using default mechanics, datapacks, plugins, or even mods. It doesn’t matter what game version you use, it’s possible to see coords while exploring the world.

    Minecraft Java Coords
One of the most common ways to show coordinates is by pressing F3 on Windows or Fn+F3 on MacOS. This reveals a debug menu, displaying various information about your Minecraft server, world, and client details.

It can be overwhelming at first, but only one area is what you want. Look for the XYZ line near the top left corner – this shows you the exact coordinates of your in-game position. Use this to keep track of bases, areas of interest, or to simply navigate through the world.

    Datapacks, Plugins, Mods

On the other hand, you have the possibility to install datapacks, plugins, or mods to your Minecraft server that shows coordinates. This method makes it easier for you and players to quickly see the coords, rather than a messy debug menu. We strongly recommend using datapacks, as they’re the more universal way to achieve this goal. Otherwise, you would need a Spigot / PaperMC server to support plugins for the same result. The same is true for Forge / Fabric servers, giving you the ability to install mods.

Here are some examples that you can use:

Keep in mind that many other datapacks, plugins, and mods exist that show coordinates.

    Minecraft: Bedrock Edition

    Minecraft Bedrock Show Coords
While playing on Bedrock, you’re able to quickly show coordinates in a user-friendly way. This involves using the /gamerule showCoordinates true command, instantly showing your coords. However, you must be a Minecraft server operator before you can do that in-game.

Otherwise, you would want to input the command in your console. Regardless of how you enable this feature, all players will see their coordinates afterward.

    Coordinates in Minecraft

Having access to your coordinates gives you the ability to keep track of your bases and all sorts of other things. For example, while playing with friends – you can ask for their coords to find them. It might even come in handy when you get blown up by a creeper! Simply travel to the coordinates and pick up your items. Without coordinates, the Minecraft experience for everyone could be more difficult. This feature doesn’t have to be enabled all the time, but helps you in certain situations. Try it out with your friends today!
