How To Start an American Truck Simulator Server

How to Start an American Truck Simulator Server – Introduction

American Truck Simulator takes players on vast journeys across

    America

, from the sandy lands of Texas to the sunny beaches of the American West Coast. When beginning adventures on an American Truck Simulator server, there are some setup steps required to get your server up and running.

Truck Simulator servers require some configuration in the form of adding a special file from your game to your server. This process takes just a few minutes and ensures your server is ready for the long and enjoyable drives ahead. Join us on the road as we show you how to start an American Truck Simulator server so you and your friends can take the wheel!

Getting Started with an American Truck Simulator Server

    Renting Your Own Server

    1. Go to the American Truck Simulator server order page.
    2. Select the best plan that fits your server and player needs.

    1. After selecting the plan, confirm your payment option and server options.
    2. Finally, once everything is correct, proceed to payment. After payment, you’ll receive your server information within seconds and can begin managing your server!

    Creating ATS Server Config Files

    1. Ensure that American Truck Simulator is installed on your computer.
    2. Enable the game console by editing the game’s config.cfg file.
      • Locate the config.cfg file based on your operating system:
        1. On Windows: /USER/Documents/American Truck Simulator/config.cfg
        2. On Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/American Truck Simulator/config.cfg
        3. On Linux: USER/.local/share/American Truck Simulator/config.cfg
      • In the config.cfg file, find the following settings and change them from “0” to “1”:
        • g_developer
        • g_console
    3. After making these changes, save the file, start Truck Simulator, and load fully into the world. We recommend sitting in your truck for a few minutes to allow the world to generate and export properly in the next steps.
    4. Once a few minutes have passed, open the Truck Simulator console by pressing the “~” key (on an English keyboard). On other language keyboards, this key is usually located directly under the “Esc” key.
    5. Type the command “export_server_packages” and press enter. This will export and create the files needed for your Truck Simulator server.

    1. After pressing enter, you’ll see the message “Server packages exported successfully” indicating that the export was successful! A “server_packages.sii” and a “server_packages.dat” file will be created in the Truck Simulator files located as mentioned in step #2.
    2. Log in to your Truck Simulator server’s FTP and upload both files into your server’s ats/save folder.
    3. After uploading the files, you can start your Truck Simulator server, join, and hit the road with your friends!

How to Join Truck Simulator Servers

Once set up, your server will appear in the Convoy menu of American Truck Simulator. You can use the search function to find and join your new Truck Simulator server. Once you and your friends are connected, you’ll be ready to begin your drive!
