HOW TO USE MINECRAFT COLOR CODE

    MOTD IN MINECRAFT

    1. Go on your Minecraft server and access the “General” server settings.
    2. Locate the “MOTD” setting.

    1. Use the “MOTD CODE”s included above to add color to both of those settings like this:

This MOTD will appear as “Nitrado Game ServerNews & Tutorials”.

    1. After making changes to your server settings, press “Save changes” and then restart your Minecraft server.
    2. When viewing your Minecraft server now, your MOTD will be custom colored:

    MINECRAFT TEXT COLOR

Minecraft text in single-player servers without mods or plugins can only use text color through commands. This command uses the Minecraft name color to color the text sent from this command:
    /tellraw @a {“text”:”This text is green”,”color”:”green”}

You can adjust “This text is green” to your text and change the color “green” to your preferred text for this command. To be able to more freely use colors in chat, below we will provide a plugin you can use for color chat and how to install it.

    MINECRAFT PLUGIN COLOR CODES

Using color codes freely in chat, signs, groups, and more, you will need Minecraft plugins or mods. Before continuing, download the Minecraft plugin EssentialsX, EssentialsXChat, and EssentialsXSpawn. EssentialsX will replace the normal § symbol with &, allowing for color codes to be easily usable on all computers and devices. Once those are downloaded, follow these instructions to add the plugins to your dedicated Minecraft server:

    1. Go on your Minecraft server webinterface and turn off your server.
    2. If your server currently doesn’t support plugins, backup your server, and then you’ll need to change your server through “SWITCH GAME” to “Minecraft (Bukkit / Spigot)“.

    1. Once your server is set to Minecraft (Bukkit / Spigot), you can use the “Version Change” feature of the control panel to set your preferred Minecraft server version.
    2. Once set to the correct version, to the left of your Minecraft server webinterface select the “File Browser” option under “TOOLS”.
    3. In the file browser, click the folders “minecraftbukkit” and “plugins”.

    1. Inside the “plugins” folder, press “Upload file” and find the EssentialsX plugin .jar files you downloaded earlier.
    2. Select all of those plugin files and then press “Open” to begin uploading them to your server.

    1. Once uploaded fully, go back to your server’s “Dashboard” and restart your server to load those Minecraft plugins.
    2. If you’re not already an Operator on your server, go to the “Live Server Console” and type the command “op yourMinecraftUsername” to give yourself full access to all server commands and permissions including being able to use colored chat and add color to signs.
      1. If you’d like to give colored chat to all players, go back to your server’s “File Browser” and go to the location “minecraftbukkit”, “plugins”, “Essentials”, and edit the “config.yml” file.
      2. Scroll down until you see the setting “use-bukkit-permissions”(around line 329) and change this setting to false.

This disables the permissions built into Minecraft (Bukkit / Spigot) and allows Essentials to take over, giving players all of the commands and permissions under “player-commands”(around line 244) in that same file.

      1. Press “Save changes” at the bottom and then restart your server to allow all players to use colored and formatted chat.

ADD COLORS TO YOUR MINECRAFT SERVER
