    Project Zomboid Admin Commands Guide

    Project Zomboid Admin Commands Guide

Inside Project Zomboid servers, players are immersed in a unique zombie survival experience. With a vast world to explore, filled with undead and other dangers, there is always something new to discover. However, with such dangers, it can sometimes be difficult to get certain resources or reach certain areas, leaving players feeling stuck. Thankfully, there is a way to still advance and that’s through the use of Project Zomboid admin commands.

Project Zomboid commands allow you to manage players, spawn items, get XP, and control the game. Using these commands, you can ensure a great experience for everyone playing on your server. In this guide, we’ll show you how to enable and use Project Zomboid admin commands on your Project Zomboid game server to create the best multiplayer experience!

How to Get Admin on a Project Zomboid Server

When it comes to using Project Zomboid admin commands, you’ll need to acquire admin access first. To do this, follow our guide on becoming a Project Zomboid admin. Afterward, you’ll be ready to start using commands to manage your server.

    Using Commands on Your Server

    1. To begin, start Project Zomboid and join your server. If you haven’t already, follow the steps above to gain admin privileges on the server.
    2. Once in-game, press the “T”-key to open the multiplayer chat.
    3. The Project Zomboid multiplayer chat opened in-game, with a command typed into the chat box

    4. Type any of the commands below into the chat window, then press Enter to run it on your server.

Adding Admins to Your Project Zomboid Game Server

In many situations, the admin password can be dangerous since it provides players with access to all commands. Instead, you can give a player a more limited role on the server through Project Zomboid admin commands. The command you’ll need to use is “/setaccesslevel <player> <role>”.

The levels on a standard server are user, priority, observer, gm, moderator, and admin. Type them in lowercase exactly as shown, since the game treats them as case-sensitive. A player can only assign levels below their own, so an admin can promote a moderator, but not the other way around.

    What Each Role Can Do

Build 42 rebuilt server roles as permission sets. Each role bundles individual permissions, and staff with the right access can view and edit those permissions through the Roles List in the in-game Admin Panel. The built-in roles are:

    • user: The standard player level with no staff permissions. Set a player back to user to remove any staff access they had.
    • priority: A standard player with login priority. They can join even when the server is full and are not kicked for lag.
    • observer: The first staff level. Observers can teleport, toggle god mode, invisibility, and noclip for themselves, open locked doors, enter safehouses, and view player stats. They cannot spawn items or XP.
    • gm: Everything an observer can do, plus spawning items and XP, starting and stopping rain, triggering events such as alarms and gunshots, and toggling god mode, invisibility, and noclip for other players.
    • moderator: Almost every permission, including kicking and banning players, managing the whitelist, setting up safehouses, and changing other players’ levels. Moderators cannot edit roles, reload lua files, or change server options.
    • admin: Every permission on the server.

The overseer level from earlier builds is no longer a built-in role. Accounts that held it are treated as gm by default.
