This tutorial is specifically for Terraria tShock (not Vanilla!)

How do I activate the whitelist?

To activate a whitelist for the Terraria server, follow these steps:

    • Navigate to your Web Interface.
    • Stop the server.
    • Open Config Editor under the “Settings Menu” on the left-hand side.
    • Select Terraria (tShock).
      • Find the line "EnableWhitelist": false,
    • Change this entry to "EnableWhitelist": true,.
    • Start the server for the changes to take effect.

    The Whitelist is now activated.

How do I add a player to the whitelist?

The whitelist in Terraria works only via IP address. There is no option to whitelist by player name or ID.

    • Go to your Web Interface.
    • Access the Server Console.
    • Execute the following command in the server.log:
      • whitelist IP_Address

      Examples:

      • whitelist 192.168.2.1
      • whitelist 217.199.197.5

How do I change the kick message with Whitelist enabled?

    • Navigate to your Web Interface.
    • Stop the server.
    • Open Config Editor under the “Settings Menu” on the left-hand side.
    • Select Terraria (tShock).
    • Find the line "WhitelistKickReason": "You are not on the whitelist.",.
    • You can customize it, for example:
      • "WhitelistKickReason": "The server is being maintained.",
    • Start the server.

    Conclusion

Activating and managing a whitelist on your Terraria tShock server ensures better control over who can join. By following this guide, you can activate the whitelist, add players by IP address, and even customize the kick message for unauthorized users. Remember to make any necessary changes through the web interface and always restart the server for those changes to take effect.
