Mod Installation for Dont Starve Together

The game Don’t Starve Together allows the installation of mods via the Steam Workshop. To do this, you only need the workshop ID of the desired mod.

Determine Workshop ID

To find the workshop ID of the desired mod, visit steamcommunity.com and search for the mod.

In this example, we use the “Luffy” mod. It can be found here: Luffy Workshop.

On the mod’s page, you’ll find the URL which contains the workshop ID. For example, the URL for Luffy is:
Steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=380079744

The number 380079744 is the workshop ID needed for the next steps.

Add Mod Download / Update to Startup Process

To download the mod when the server starts, this information must be added to the server’s configuration file. This is done in the /dontstarve/mods/dedicated_server_mods_setup.lua file.

In this file, you can add the following entry to download the mod at startup:

-- There are two functions that will install mods, ServerModSetup and ServerModCollectionSetup.
-- ServerModSetup takes a string of a specific mod's Workshop ID.
-- Example: ServerModSetup("380079744")

ServerModSetup("380079744")

After the next restart, the mods will be downloaded and stored in directories named workshop-<Workshop-ID>. At this point, the mods are downloaded but not yet activated.

Activate Mod

To activate the installed mod, open the /dontstarve/mods/modsettings.lua file and add the following line:

ForceEnableMod("workshop-380079744")

After adding this, the mod will be activated upon the next server reboot.

Important Note

Please note that some mods work only in local mode and cannot be forced to be enabled on dedicated servers. These mods are labeled with the tag client_only_mod.
