ARK: Survival Evolved - Patch 256

With patch 256 for ARK: Survival Evolved, there are many major innovations. These included 4 new creatures, underwater bases, and a complete rework of the UI.

While ARK: Survival Evolved gets frequent updates, patch 256 is probably the largest of them all so far. This is due in part to the profound changes and new content it contains. There are three major things fans have been waiting for, and they are finally here. If you'd like to see the trailer for the patch, check it out below:

The New User Interface

One of the most notable major changes is the newly innovated user interface. Not only does it look a million times nicer, the important aspects of the interface are more pronounced. We've finally got a modern UI.

ARK: Survival Evolved Update 256 for ARK: Survival Evolved adds not only additional creatures, but overhauls the inventory system completely.

Tek Underwater Bases

With Tek tier underwater bases, Studio Wildcard is coming through with one of the most sought after features from the community. Ever since the first aquatic animals were introduced, players wanted to live in the water. Unfortunately, the new bases come with some expensive drawbacks. Only Tek tier structures can be used to correctly implement the underwater base, which means this is an end-game update.

In addition to the underwater bases, the Mosasaurus is receiving a Tek saddle like the T-Rex! The only difference is the Mosa rocks the saddle way better!

Leedsichthys

The leedsichthys is truely a titan of the ocean, and looks eerily like Moby Dick in the albino variations. This behemoth of the sea does as it wants, enjoying the domincance over its domain. It is ill advised to take one of these on without a game plan. They are very skilled in destroying rafts, but you better believe it is worth the effort to tame one.

Ichthyornis

The ichtyornis is similar to a pelagornis, but much smaller. The ichthyornis is a new shoulder pet for survivors. The role of this creature is simple: collect fish when ordered. Not just any fish, though, the best fish available in the area.

Iguanadon

The iguanadon is one of the weaker dinos on the ARK, but it has other uses beyond combat. With pointed front legs, they can open fruits and extract the seeds. It will use all four legs to sprint, massively increasing the speed, making it an excellent alternative to other early game dinos.

Equus

Here we come to one of the more important additions to the game: the Equus. Ironically, players have longed for a horse to hit the ARK. Ironic in the way of "Why would you want a horse when you can have a T-Rex?" The equus is a well-rounded, extremely versatile creature available early in the game.

Not only can you cover ground quickly, but you can craft with them, and even get them dancing. The most exciting part of the equus is how you tame it: give it some food, hop on and get ready! Like other games involving the taming of horses, you have to "break" the horse, surviving the bucking and tossing until the animal submits. If you make it this far, you've got your very own pony!

More Tek Structures

On top of the underwater base, we are also receiving two more Tek structures worth mentioning. There is now a Tek Generator, supplying wireless energy to anything that needs it in the vicinity. One of these structures in need of energy could be the new Tek Teleporter. This device should be pretty self explanatory: it teleports you from one place to another. Where you are teleported to is based on where you placed another teleporter pad, distance is not a factor.

What are your thoughts on the new UI? Are you prepared already for the underwater bases? Or do you require a stable for your equestrain friends? Let us know in the comments below!
