Update 1.12 is out now! A new gun, Combat Changes, and More

Greetings! Another update has hit DayZ on all platforms offering a sweep of new fixes and changes to the game. The changes in the update are based directly off player feedback during the experimental phase. Expect a few new additions to the game and a brand new weapon as well.

Update 1.12 Details

From weapons and fighting Zombies to horticulture and food, DayZ received a number of changes in various areas of the game:

Additions:

  • Variety of small food items
  • Pioneer rifle
  • Fange Knife
  • Kukri Knife
  • Sickle
  • Farming Hoe
  • Broom
  • New action to disarm land mines with the right tool
  • Tritium sights to the ATOG backup sights
  • You now have to peel potatoes to make them edible
  • Greenhouses can now be used for agriculture
  • Flags can now be cut into rags using a knife
  • Vehicle batteries are now recharged while the engine is running and consumed by the headlights
  • Vehicle attachments can now be locked in place using a screwdriver (interiors) and wrench (doors)
  • Tooltips for attachment slots
  • Empty attachment slots are highlighted on the mouse-over
  • Added over 100 new error codes to the connection issues and kicks

Changes:

  • Changes to player vs infected and player vs player combat:
    • Infected senses have been tweaked to make them slower to react to nearby noises. This will make a stealth approach and stealth kills easier. Infected will also be more likely now to leave their target alone if they lose track of it, and they won’t attack unconscious players anymore.
    • A massive balancing pass for existing firearms was completed. Smaller caliber weapons are harder to hear from a distance, and non-automatic rifles being stronger and more precise than automatic ones. Making weapons more diverse while keeping the rarity of the item in mind.
      • "The diversification of firearms also affects ammunition properties, which means we paid attention to damage to health, as well as shock differences between individual ammo types. This was also coupled with a major buff to protective gear with ballistic properties (selected helmets and vests), which now protects players a lot more from incoming damage to health and allows for more firefights to end in an unconscious state rather than instant death."
    • Suppressors make firearms much more useful during encounters. Allowing players to stealthily take down their targets without attracting all the infected in the area. Whenever an infected is hit with a firearm, there is now a very high chance of having a stopping effect on them.
    • Landmines went through a balance pass and are no longer lethal to healthy players. That being said, they will still cripple their victims, so watch out for them. If you manage to spot one before stepping on it, you can disarm it with the right tool.
    • A brand new weapon has been introduced to the game - the Pioneer. This is a special police force bolt-action rifle. The Pioneer makes use of a five-round 5.56×45mm magazine.
    • There are two new exotic knives to be found: The Fange Knife, and the Kukri Knife
  • Things were taken into account by the developers when it comes to food. The size of the inventory, the quantity itself, the fullness factor, the differences between cooking stages, and whether the item requires a tool to open. All foods have received a balancing pass of the nutritional values
  • 13 new food items have made their way into the game. All of which will reinforce the existing food within the new player spawn areas.
    • the new food items are low in nutrition, meaning they’ll only provide a short-term energy supply, allowing players to hop from one place to another, but not take long trips.
  • Horticulture can now be performed inside various greenhouses across the world.
    • Potatoes can be planted and grown. They need to be peeled before you can eat them though.
    • Plant growth time has been increased. The time varies between 20-50 minutes, depending on the type of plant and its nutritional yield.
    • The yield of a plant depends on the type of fertilization used.
  • A way to lock attachments onto a car has been added to the game. This will add more valuable use of broadly available tools such as tire irons, wrenches, and screwdrivers.
