HOW TO PLAY PROJECT ZOMBOID MULTIPLAYER
FINDING YOUR PROJECT ZOMBOID IP ADDRESS
- Access your Project Zomboid server panel.
- On your server panel under “Server Status”, you will see your server IP Address.
This is the exact IP you will be using to connect to your Project Zomboid server.
USE STEAM TO JOIN A PROJECT ZOMBOID SERVER
- Load Steam and at the top, select “View” and then click “Servers”.
- In the Steam “Servers” area, under the “Favorites” tab at the bottom, select “ADD A SERVER” and then input your Project Zomboid server’s IP address:
- That Project Zomboid server will appear. Click that server, press “CONNECT” to join, and begin playing Project Zomboid multiplayer!
CONNECTING IN-GAME TO A PROJECT ZOMBOID SERVER
- Open Steam and start Project Zomboid from your game library.
- Once at the main menu of Project Zomboid, click “JOIN” to access the server browser.
- You can add your server to the “FAVORITES” section of the server browser by adding your server information on the right side including name, IP, Port, and if a Server Password is required also include that along with a username and password you’d like to create for that server.
- Once the server has been added, click it and then press “JOIN SERVER” to join and begin playing together with your friends on your dedicated Project Zomboid server.

P2P CONNECTION ERRORS JOINING A PROJECT ZOMBOID SERVER
This error can be associated with an issue with your Project Zomboid server files and potential recent changes made to the server. To best handle fixing this error, restoring a backup from before the issue began can get your server back online quickly without losing any server files!
- Go on your Project Zomboid server control panel and under “TOOLS” click “Restore Backup” to get to the “Backup Management” area.
- In the “Backup Management” area, find a Project Zomboid backup from before this issue began to occur and click the “Restore” button on that backup.
- Click “Restore” to confirm that and your server will restore to that date and save.
- After a few moments, your server will restore and start. Try joining your server again and you will now be able to connect to your Project Zomboid server!
CAN’T CONNECT TO A MODDED PROJECT ZOMBOID SERVER
This issue is often associated with the Project Zomboid errors “client File doesn’t exist on the client” and “workshop item version different than server version” which means that the game mod files are not up-to-date. To resolve these types of errors, you can force Steam to reinstall and update each mod file. We will show you exactly how to do that!
- Start Steam on your PC, go to your game library, click on Project Zomboid, and access the Steam Workshop for this game.
- In the Steam Workshop for Project Zomboid, next to your profile picture select “Your files” and then “Subscribed items” to see all your subscribed to Project Zomboid mods.
- Click each mod that your server uses and then press “Unsubscribe” and then “Subscribe” again to redownload the mod.
- After Steam is done downloading the mods, you will now be able to join your or your friends' Project Zomboid modded server!
