Steam - Top Selling Games of 2016

When it comes to gaming, Steam is definitely the largest sales platform. We're here to let you know which games were the most lucrative in 2016.

It should go without saying that most PC gamers have a Steam account. Not only is it the largest sales platform for PC games, it also offers excellent multiplayer features, developer support, and a strong community. The large discount campaigns, Steam Sales, play a huge role in the popularity of the platform. Not even the large triple-A titles are safe from the discounts.

Looking back on the year, Steam has released a top seller list. Not only does this list include Triple-A titles, they also include older pearls and smaller indie titles, but check it out yourself!

CounterStrike: Global Offensive

This shouldn't really be much of a surprise to anyone. In terms of eSports, CS:GO is the main title for Steam, which would explain the sales numbers. 2016 was a good year for eSports, which can be seen in other large eSports titles selling well.

Rocket League

Everyone's favorite car ball is seen near the top of this list, again mostly because of eSports. Although it pales in comparison to the following of CS:GO, it can't be ignored. A reasonable ranking system, continuous updates, different game modes, and much more, it's easy to see how this title had a strong 2016.

No Man's Sky

Although this game turned out to be a massive flop, nobody could have known about it until after the game was purchased. The hype surrounding the game, although unnecessary in hindsight, was heavily responsible for the sales figures. A more interesting statistic would be how many refunds Steam had to dish out.

The Witcher 3 - Wild Hunt

This is a fantastic game. The storyline, versatile characters, and an incredible game world makes for one of the best in 2016. Most of the success in 2016 should be attributed to the expansion, though. Blood and Wine breathed new life into an already successful title.

Fallout 4

Here we see another game from 2015 reaching the top of the charts in 2016. Fallout, falling into the same league as Witcher, gets its success from the experiences outside of the main storyline, which are numerous and provide so many extra hours of gameplay.

Dota 2

Although this may be somewhat surprising, considering Dota 2 is a free game, micro-transactions keep MOBAs alive, and this is no exception. eSports are a huge driving factor here as well.

Tom Clancy's The Divison

The Division had its fair share of woes, but the developers managed to salvage the title through patches and well received expansions.

Total War: Warhammer

Tons of people enjoy the Total War franchise, and this is the most recent of them.

Dark Souls 3

This one shouldn't really come as a surprise. The Souls series has been around for a while, and long time fans have received a worthy successor with Dark Souls 3. The worthiness is shown by the sales figures.

Sid Meier's Civilization 6

Civilization is another mega-popular game, but having only 3 months of sales and still reaching this list is an achievement in itself.

Xcom 2

A slightly different strategy game, which nowadays "other" games seem to be increasingly popular. After the success of XCOM, the success of this was not expected.

GTA V

Wow! Although first released on consoles in 2013 and didn't see PC until 2015, GTA V is still one of the best-selling games the market has to offer. Steam Workshop integration has provided users with an almost endless list of content to play around with.

These twelve titles are the Platinum category. Gold, Silver, and Bronze categories are also filled with some amazing titles. If you're interested in the other 88 games, check out the complete list here.
