Twitch - Desktop App Under Development

Twitch has announced a new desktop application. It is currently under development, but we should see open beta on March 16!

What we used to know as the "Curse" desktop app is currently undergoing some crazy reworking. In the summer of last year, Twitch finalized a deal with Curse involving the redesigning of the software. The open beta will be here soon, and is supposed to be the next generation of "Gaming Communication".

What will the new desktop app include?

The new Twitch app will run on public servers, will have voice and text chat, and an in-game overlay. It will also be linked with various social networks. It will also be able to make video calls, have friends, and share content directly to the community. The app will also feature a game library, so games purchased through Twitch will show up in the app. Storing add-ons for the games should be possible as well, with the app keeping them up-to-date. According to Twitch, streamers and followers/subs should benefit greatly from the app, as communities should grow outside of streaming times.

Distribution of Games

Twitch has also announced that they will be distributing select games starting in Spring. The desktop app will serve to download and launch the selected games. More information about this has yet to have been released.

Do you think the new Twitch Desktop App will be successful? Let us know in the comments below!
