Game Server Modding Basics with Nitrado

Modding your Nitrado game server unlocks endless possibilities! You can add custom items, maps, vehicles, or tweak game mechanics and introduce unique game modes. Whether you are running a server for ARK, DayZ, Minecraft, or Conan Exiles, you can install and activate mods to enhance your gameplay experience. What is Server Modding?

Server Modding allows you to tweak, enhance, or completely transform the vanilla game experience on your server. By adding custom files, scripts, and assets, you can turn a standard game world into a customized adventure tailored to your preferred style.

• Gameplay Overhauls and Mechanics: Change core rules like leveling speed, damage multipliers, survival systems, or introduce entirely new game modes.
• New Assets and Environments: Expand the world by adding custom maps, unique weapons, additional vehicles, or custom player skins.

How to Activate / Install Mods

Setting up mods on your Nitrado game server is straightforward, but it depends on the type of game you’re running. In most cases, players will have to install the mods locally on their computer to join the server too. In your Web Interface, you can manually upload mods via the File Browser, activate mods in the general settings, or use integrated tools to automatically do it for you, if available for your game server.

Game Server Setup

1. Stop Your Server: Safely shut down the server to prevent issues.
2. Access Mod Settings: Navigate to your Nitrado Web Interface and:
   • Select the CurseForge Mods tool from the Dashboard.
   • Use the File Browser to enter your game’s mod directory.
   • Head towards the General Settings to find the field for mods.
3. Select or Upload Mods: Based on your game server, do the following:
   • Search for and install mods directly using the CurseForge Mods option.
   • Upload mod files into the game server mods folder in the File Browser.
   • Enter Mod IDs into the designated field via General Settings.
4. Adjust Configurations: Modify any generated configuration files inside the File Browser to customize gameplay settings, drop rates, or mod permissions.
5. Save and Reboot: Save your settings and restart the server to allow Nitrado to automatically initialize the mods.

If you’re required to install the mods locally to your game, then ensure you do that before connecting to the server. For example, Minecraft requires you to have Forge, NeoForge, or Fabric installed on your launcher – then you can install mods to it. Other games might be different, such as Steam games using the Workshop.
