Revamped Environment & Graphic Art

Holding a heavy focus on improving the world around you, the 7 Days to Die update dev team has been hard at work designing and producing improved art for the world. This includes changes to existing environment objects and graphics you’d see while running away from a hoard of zombies. You can keep an eye out for the following props and graphical elements that have changed in the world on your server and, keep in mind, this is only a handful of the over 30+ improvements!:

  • Doors, signs, furniture, and wall art

Drastic World Updates

Your adventures inside 7 Days to Die are about to get a whole lot more… random! Random world generation or RWG for 7DTD has seen a large improvement. From generation speed to POI placement, and new features aimed at enhancing a player’s experience and resolving bugs. Below, we’ll outline the most notable changes you can expect!:

  • Generation speed of worlds has been sped up by 4 to 5 times the previous rate
  • Highways between gateway tiles and township rural tiles can now merge
  • “New Game” button has been added to immediately play the map generated
  • Improved road-smoothing and a new street tile system for concise placement of wilderness, towns, and highways

In addition, a new chunk reset system has been implemented. A new advanced game option, enabling the chunk reset system will cause chunks to reset to their original states when they’re unvisited for a specified in-game duration. That said, if you have land claims, bedrolls, or other important player-owned objects such as backpacks in a region, you will never need to worry as those chunks will not reset. It is important to keep in mind that containers and workstations do not follow this rule and so, we recommend always placing these in a location with other player-owned objects to be safe.

One of the biggest parts of this new feature is that previously visited locations will now be able to respawn loot and restore destroyed structures while players are away. This in turn will reduce save game sizes and keep your 7 Days to Die server adventure running at its best!

Difficulty Adjustments in the 7 Days to Die Update

7 Days to Die update to see game difficulty in an area

When it came to figuring out the difficulty in the past 7 Days to Die updates, it wasn’t always easy knowing what you were going to be getting yourself into if you walked into a Burnt or Snowy area. Often, players would utilize console commands to help them with these difficulties. Now, you’ll know exactly what difficulties you’ll be facing with the new difficulty improvements in the 7 Days to Die update. Indicated by a set number of red and orange skulls that appear when entering a point of interest, you can read these to see what awaits your fate in each POI. Below, you’ll see some examples of biome difficulty represented by the number of skulls that appear:

  • Forest – 0
  • Burnt (Navezgane only) – 0.5
  • Desert – 1
  • Snow – 1.5
  • Wasteland – 2

It’s important to know that POIs between the different biomes can be drastically different. For example, a POI inside the Snow area will be more difficult compared to that same POI in a Forest area.

Starter Quest and New Quests Type

The starter quest for the 7 Days to Die update has brought with it a new step-by-step breakdown of the initial stages of the game. By providing user-friendly instructions, both new and seasoned players can quickly and effortlessly learn how to dive right back into 7 Days to Die!

If you prefer a challenge, there are even new quest types called Infestation Quests. Starting at Tier 2, these quests take a support point of interest and add +1 to its current Tier. Then, zombie counts are multiplied to create an even greater challenge. This means that Tier 5 locations can become Tier 6 through these quests. With that, you’ll need to play alongside all of your friends by your side to defeat this ultimate challenge on your 7 Days to Die server hosting!

Other Game Improvements from Alpha 21

7 Days to Die update game improvements and changes in Alpha 21

  • New doors – Opening the way to new possibilities, a range of doors has been added to 7 Days to Die including the highly-anticipated double doors. No longer will players have to rely on installing mods to bring these doors to life! Bringing a new level of detail to your in-game creations, players will be able to explore updated craftable door options and their gradual deterioration if they sustain damage. Through time, you may begin to notice holes from the result of shootouts or a rogue player attempting to break in with a melee weapon. Due to this, some doors can be broken enough to not destroy them, allowing other players to sneak in for the attack.
  •

  • Water adjustments – Water used to clip through semi-solid block shapes until this update. Now, with the 7 Days to Die update Alpha 21, water performance will feel better, it’ll flow as voxels directly, moving if you shoot a path for it to flow, and players can swim through the water with much more smoothness.
  •

  • Hazards system – Hazards in 7 Days to Die is a new mechanic that brings about some caution while you’re exploring. One such example is flame hazards, traps within specific locations that must be deactivated before you can explore further. While active, these dangers can unleash devastating fire damage to anyone or anything that may approach its path!
  •

  • Crafting Skills & Perk system overhauls – Instead of crafting unlocks being in the perks system, you’ll now find them in the new Crafting Skills system. Through reading Crafting Skill magazines, players can improve their skills to unlock better tools, armor, and equipment crafting opportunities.

Due to this, the perk system has also seen an overhaul to the following perks!

  • Sexual Tyrannosaurus has been moved to each weapon perk.
  • Flurry of Blows has been moved to each Attribute as a new perk.
  • Physician has gained the ability to treat sprains and gives more XP for healing.
  • Grease Monkey now grants the ability to use fewer repair kits.
  • Master Chef allows players to cook faster with every level up.
  • Lock Picking has been moved over to Intellect.
  • Recipe Tracking – How well do you remember all of the crafting recipes in 7 Days to Die? For most of us, it’s a near-impossible challenge. Thankfully with the 7 Days to Die update Alpha 21, we no longer need to worry about recipe tracking. This new ability will allow players to track recipes in the top-right corner of their screen while collecting resources. Once all the necessary resources are collected, a tool belt message will appear to tell you that the item can be crafted!
  •

  • Loot Balancing – To achieve the best balance for players, the 7 Days to Die developers have improved loot balancing across the board. The fine-tuning done has included the availability of water and food, proper quest rewards, refinding trader inventories, and the distribution of crafting skill magazines.
