When it comes to high-skill ceiling combat systems, it is an inevitability that a meta develops. We would like to believe that every weapon is fair and balanced, but that simply just isn’t the case with most games. And Chivalry 2 is no different! So whether you’re down on your own skill or you’re just looking to see what you need to be on watch for, it’s valid to want to know which weapons offer that competitive edge. Chivalry 2 Best Weapons: Top 5
As with most lists of this nature, it will be based on my opinion. But to be fair, my opinion ain’t worth nothing! I’ll be basing my opinion on what most consistently performs well in both the casual and competitive communities. Also, this list is in no particular order. We’re already dealing with the top weapons in the game, so no need to compare them to each other.
Heavy Mace
The Heavy Mace is a two-handed blunt weapon that is exclusive to the Officer subclass. This weapon is characterized by its incredibly fast windup and very long release window, but what does this mean? Well, the combination of the fast windup and long release allows for incredible accelerations and very slow drags. Being able to change your weapon from a speedy quick hit to a long drawn-out slash is very good for one-on-one engagements. This is not even mentioning the fairly high damage and the weapons’ unique aspect of stamina drain negation. Stamina drain negation basically means that the Heavy Mace loses less stamina when blocking an attack than other weapons. In large group fights, this is inconsequential, but in a duel, this can be a major bonus. In any case, this weapon is a beast that is widely considered to be the best blunt weapon in the game.
Messer
The Messer is a two-handed sword that can be used on the Crusader and Raider subclasses. This weapon isn’t a jack of all trades, but a king of all trades. The Messer is widely loved by all Chivalry 2 duelists because it is simply great at everything, no holds barred. Stab, Overhead, and Slash are amazing on this weapon along with availability on the two most popular classes in the game. Solid windups and release along with decent range and a high base damage enable a weapon that has no obvious weaknesses. The competitive community fears the Messer overhead, arguably one of the best attacks in the game. For those looking for a weapon that works with any playstyle, the Messer has what it takes!
Greatsword
The Greatsword is a min/max weapon that adheres to a very specific fighting style, that being the Messer but focusing overheads. This weapon is a two-handed sword that can be used on the Officer and Devastator subclasses. With reduced damage and range on the stab, a reasonable trade-off on the slash that has reduced damage but increased range, and finally an overhead that simply does too much damage and has infinite range. This weapon actually used to be exclusive to the Devastator, but eventually, it was added to the Officer, and so the weapon now sees tons of usage from all types of players. While I do think it is slightly more difficult to use than the Messer, I also believe that in large player count gamemodes, it is more powerful. The limited moveset really isn’t noticed when you’re just spamming its most powerful attack against the wall of flesh. A great choice for those with proper spacing and good fundamentals.
Halberd
The Halberd is a two-handed polearm that deals chop damage that is exclusive to the Poleman subclass. Massive range, a varied moveset, and the ability to two-shot any class with two different types of attacks lead the Halberd to be the most well-rounded polearm in the game, and runner-up for the best weapon, period. Poleman in general is a class that trades utility and class stats for the sake of having extremely powerful weapons, and the Halberd is no exception. The massive range along with the solid damage ends up making this weapon extremely intimidating, and while the swing manipulation is very limited, it isn’t terrible. This doesn’t even mention the sprint charge, which has the highest damage out of all weapons with that ability. In fact, this one aspect of the weapon is seen as so powerful that it is one of the few weapons that is limited in competitive play. Scary!
Spear
The ultimate weapon of Chivalry 2, and the ultimate weapon of real life! The Spear is a two-handed polearm that is exclusive to the Poleman subclass. It has the most range out of any weapon in the entire game, but it is heavily limited in its moveset. The overhead is low range and extremely low damage, and the weapon overall has less damage than the Halberd. But the range, man. It’s just so long! (pause) The Spear has so much range that you can simply attack the enemy with incessant stabs from behind your teammates with complete safety, it’s insane. This allows you to continue to spam attacks because you don’t necessarily have to adhere to initiative by countering or blocking the enemy’s attacks since you’re so far away. This simple fact is what keeps this weapon absolutely overpowered. Although I say this, I don’t see it as a balancing issue, since the Poleman itself is lacking in lots of other areas, like poor secondary, bad stats, and a lack of a solid class ability. Regardless, the Spear is deadly!
