Chivalry 2 Classes and Subclasses Guide

Chivalry 2: All Classes and Subclasses – Introduction

Chivalry 2 is a game where the battlefield is forever chaotic, with constant battles between the three factions happening nonstop. To succeed in your upcoming fights, you’ll need to know what’s what. Everything from weapons, maps, damage types, and even the different classes. Today, we will go over all the different classes you can expect in Chivalry 2 server hosting along with their respective subclasses. Let’s begin.

    The Knight

The Knight is the most popular class in Chivalry 2, which makes sense, considering the name. This class is a tank that boasts the largest health bar as well as a variety of two-handed weapons that are all fairly well-rounded. Unfortunately, this massive health bar comes at the cost of speed and stamina, with the Knight being the slowest class in the game. Knights can be recognized by their full plate armor, simultaneously offering them the best protection and the most stylish attire.

Chivalry 2 classes - Knight and subclasses Officer, Guardian, and Crusader

    Chivalry 2 Knight Subclasses

The Officer: The Officer is probably the most well-rounded subclass in the game, using the Trumpet as his special ability, and a variety of exclusive weapons such as the Longsword, Heavy Mace, War Axe, and more.

The Guardian: Next, the Guardian. The Guardian is the tankiest class in the game, equipped with all shields available in the game, and brutal one-handed weapons which pack a punch like a two-hander. I’m particularly fond of the Warhammer myself. The Guardian also has access to the Banner, arguably the best team-oriented ability in the game! Lastly, the Crusader is the final subclass unlocked for the Knight.

The Crusader: The Crusader is known as the most damage-oriented Knight, with the Firepot as its special ability. It has access to some very powerful two-handed weapons that focus on range and damage over anything else.

    The Footman

The Footman is known as Chivalry 2’s designated support class. Having middle-of-the-road stats across the board, the Footman doesn’t particularly excel at killing as the Knight or Vanguard does, but to assure victory, they are absolutely necessary. Their utility on the battlefield cannot be underestimated, and their variety of weapons and tools make for a unique gameplay experience that is unmatched. Footman has less health than the Knights, but more than the Vanguard. You can recognize a Footman by their armor, of which has only the vital areas covered with plate armor.

Chivalry 2 classes Footman with subclasses Poleman, Man At Arms, and Field Engineer

    Chivalry 2 Footman Subclasses

Poleman: The Poleman is definitely one of the best subclasses in the game, using the strongest weapons available: The Spear and the Halberd. These two weapons are massively powerful, dealing intense damage from a massive range in chokepoints, allowing you to support the frontline to the highest degree.

Man At Arms: The MAA is the quintessential best dueling class in Chivalry 2, having a useful utility in the form of a shield and a variety of options for one-handed weapons on top of increased mobility. This subclass promotes skillful gameplay with quick attacks and great footwork.

Field Engineer: The Field Engineer is an incredibly unique subclass that involves setting up fortifications on objectives and dealing extra damage to constructibles with your main weapon. Its gameplay is probably the most foreign to traditional sword fighting, but it is definitely impactful to the team! All Footman subclasses have the Bandage Pouch as their special ability, which allows them to support the team on a more controlled basis, healing specific individuals separately instead of the entire team. It’s a great tool for squad play!

    The Vanguard

The Vanguard is the best damage-focused class in Chivalry 2. An emphasis on speed and power is made, at the expense of health of course. The Vanguard has less health than both the Footman and the Knight but with an improvement in both stamina and speed. The Vanguard in all aspects is focused on damage, getting kills, and making its team the winners at any cost necessary…even themselves! Vanguards can be recognized by their armor, which is usually just chainmail, gamberson, or leather. Unlike the Footman or Knight, they have no plate armor. This is most certainly to their detriment, because not only is it worse for protection, it is significantly less drippy!

Chivalry 2 subclasses for Vanguard including Devastator, Raider, and Ambusher

    Chivalry 2 Vanguard Subclasses

The Devastator: The Devastator is the fastest subclass in the game, with the largest weapons to boot. It has exclusive access to some of the biggest powerhouses in the game, like the Maul and Highland Sword. It also utilizes the Fire Pot, to further improve the damage dealt. Running fast and swinging hard is the name of the game.

The Raider: Next, the Raider. The Raider is a more well-rounded damage-dealing subclass, having the advantage of two primaries instead of one, like other subclasses. This subclass also sports the Trumpet, a powerful support ability that can heal the team in a pinch. Its widened kit allows for more versatility on the field, and it acts as a good alternative to the Officer for those who want some more speed.

The Ambusher: Lastly, the Ambusher. One of the weirdest, out-of-place subclasses in Chivalry 2, the Ambusher has an emphasis on…ambushing. This subclass has mediocre weapons and a lacking kit, but receives massive damage bonuses when getting backstabs, enabling a funny playstyle reminiscent of the TF2 Spy. The Ambusher’s special ability is a Bandage Pouch, like the Footman. I don’t think it fits, but whatever. Good luck with this one!

    The Archer

Ok, so it wouldn’t be a medieval game without Archers, but do they have to be here? As an Archer, you will be the most hated aspect of not only the battlefield but the game in general. At the cost of significantly reduced stats all around, you are equipped with ranged weapons that enable you to shoot enemies from afar, as opposed to everyone else who is stuck sword-fighting for their life. You may pepper the enemies with arrows, bolts, or javelins to your heart’s content! And you will be hated for it! Archers have less health and stamina than the other three classes. They can be recognized by their lack of armor entirely, opting for normal leather and cloth clothes.

Chivalry 2 Archer class and subclasses Bowman, Crossbowman, and Skirmisher

    Chivalry 2 Archer Subclasses

The Bowman: The Bowman, as you’d expect, uses Bows. The Bow and the Warbow can be used, the former of which is a faster-firing weapon that packs less of a punch. The latter is a much harder-hitting weapon, but with a much longer draw time and less ammunition. I personally recommend the Warbow, but it will probably take you a bit to unlock it. The Bowman has access to the Brazier as a special ability, which can be used to light your arrows on fire! This will improve damage against all enemies, and it can even be used to light other friendly archers’ arrows on fire as well. Neat!

The Crossbowman: Next, the Crossbowman. You know the drill at this point, he uses Crossbows. The Crossbow is a simple, effective weapon that deals more damage to armored opponents than the bows but leaves you vulnerable when reloading. The second option, the Siege Crossbow, is a variant of the Crossbow which damages constructibles. It also does more base damage than the Crossbow, but has a much longer reload and considerably less ammunition. As the Crossbowman, you also can use the Banner, like the Guardian. This is extremely valuable to your team, so be sure to use it!

The Skirmisher: The last Archer subclass is the Skirmisher. The Skirmisher is a more close-range variant of the archer, utilizing throwables instead of a projectile weapon, primarily javelins. These javelins can do massive damage if they land, and they double as a melee weapon. The Skirmisher also has slightly more stamina than the other Archers, but still less than the other three classes. The Skirmisher’s ability is a Quiver, which can be used to resupply your Javelins when available.

Whew! That’s a lot of information to digest! That’s just how intense Chivalry 2 can be. With four classes and twelve subclasses, all offering a different, unique type of gameplay, it can get pretty overwhelming! The numerous weapons and abilities all add together to create amazing team synergy, and it’s interesting to me how many unique combinations can be made with different team compositions. I hope you learned something new today as you rush into your own Chivalry 2 game server with friends!
