Basic MySQL Configuration for Plugins Using LogBlock as an Example

This article explains the basic configuration of MySQL connections for most plugins, using LogBlock as an example. The procedure is nearly the same for every plugin, so you should find your way around even if you don’t use LogBlock.

    Plugin Installation

Install the plugins as usual. If you need help with this step, we also offer a tutorial: How to Install Bukkit Plugins.

    Configuration File

The plugin will create a configuration file (config.yml) which can be found in the plugin’s folder (minecraftbukkit/plugins/LogBlock) if installed correctly. We recommend using Notepad++ for editing .yml files as it simplifies the process.

    Example Configuration

            loggedWorlds:
              - world
              - nether
            tables:
              - lb-main
              - lb-nether
            mysql:
              port: 3306
              host: localhost
              password: pass
              user: username
              database: minecraft

    Setting Up MySQL Credentials

Navigate to your server’s Webinterface and click on the “MySQL DB” menu option to view your credentials. You can now place this information in the plugin’s configuration like this:

            loggedWorlds:
              - yourworldname
              - nether
            tables:
              - lb-main
              - lb-nether
            mysql:
              port: 3306
              host: localhost
              password: PASSWORD
              user: niXXXX_1_DB
              database: niXXXX_1_DB

    Replace the Placeholders

    • PASSWORD will be replaced by your MySQL password.
    • niXXXX_1_DB will be replaced by your MySQL database name.
    • niXXXX_1_DB will be replaced by your MySQL username.
    • yourworldname will be replaced by your world folder’s name or the value of “level-name=” in your server’s configuration file (server.properties).

Now you are set and ready to go!
