    Counter-Strike: Source

    Counter-Strike: Source

    General

Counter Strike Source (short CS: S) is a Valve-developed first-person shooter from the year 2004. The game principle is based on the predecessor Counter Strike developed by two students as an add-on for Half-Life. Counter Strike Source uses the same engine as HalfLife 2 (Source Engine) and is also available with this package (package name: Orangebox).

    Create a CS: S server

    The server selection

To create a server, a public server, publicserver Basic or EPS Publicserver can be rented and set to Half-Life 2. The game selection Half-Life 2 (including Source TV) brings the following HalfLife 2 Mods:
    – Age of Chivalry
    – CSProMod
    – Counter-Strike: Source
    – Day of Defeat: Source
    – Garry’s Mod 9
    – Garry’s Mod 10
    – HL2: Deathmatch
    – Insurgency
    – Team Fortress 2
    – Zombie Panic!
    – Zombie Master
(Other mods on request for free!)

    The game selection

To use CounterStrikeSource on an already purchased server with another install game, you need to “install” StrikeSource by using Gameswitching. In Webinterface (Nitrado> My Servers> Gameserver> Your CSS Server > Webinterface Login) you will find the point “Gameswitching”. At this point, you can now install “Half-Life 2 (+ Mods, for example, CS: S, TF2, DoD: S, …)”.

Installing a game can take up to 30 minutes!

    Starting CS: S

After half-life 2 (+ mods, for example CS: S, TF2, DoD: S, …) was installed either by gameswitching or by renting a new server, Behind it is the selection of the HalfLife 2 Mod to be started, for CS: S the following is set:
    Game type: Counter-Strike: Source
    Firstmap Insurgency: Default
    Firstmap CSPromod: Leave default
Firstmap Counter-Strike: Source: Your desired startmap (normally de_dust2)
Firstmap Day of Defeat: Source: Leave default
    Firstmap Garrysmod 10: Leave default
Firstmap Team Fortress 2: Leave default
    GMod10 Gamemode: Leave default
Maximum number of players: Is set from the server and should not be changed
    VAC2: Always leave activated

(The settings with the Leave default note are not relevant for CS: S)

    Set the server

    The Config

The first thing you have to change to a freshly created CS: S server is the so-called “Config” (configuration file). The option “Config Editor [simple]” can be found under the item “File management”.
A selection appears which config should be edited. The selection is normally on Counter-Strike: Source (server.cfg) , which also corresponds exactly to the config, which must be edited in this case.
By clicking on “Edit” a form view of the config appears in which some things can be changed:

Hostname: The name of your server
Log: Select whether logging should be enabled
Mp_autokick: Are AFK players automatically kicked?
Mp_autoteambalance: should the server automatically distribute automatically evenly?
Mp_buytime: The time at the start of each player’s turn to buy his equipment
Mp_c4timer: The time how long the bomb ticks after the placement until it explodes
Mp_chattime: The time how long you can chat after rounding
Mp_dynamicpricing: Activate Dynamic Weapon Prices (Weapon Market)
Mp_fadetoblack: Should a player only see a black screen after his death?
Mp_freezetime: The duration at the beginning of each round
Mp_friendlyfire: Team bombardment on / off
Mp_maxrounds: Number of rounds to map change (0 = insensitive)
    Mp_roundtime: Round time in minutes
Mp_startmoney: Start money at start of game
Mp_timelimit: The time in minutes until a new map starts
Mp_tkpunish: Turn on / off teamkill penalty
Rcon_password: The RCON password for an admin to run RCON commands .
Sv_alltalk: All players (not just their own team) are listening to the voice chat
    Sv_gravity: Gravity
    Sv_maxrate: Maximum bandwidth / player
Sv_maxupdaterate: Maximum packet updates / second
    Sv_minrate: Minimum bandwidth / player ‘
    Sv_minupdaterate: Minimum package updates / second ‘
Sv_password: ServerPassword (leave blank = no PW)
Sv_pausable: Can any player pause the game?
    Sv_voiceenabe: ‘Turn voicechat on / off’ ‘

Click Save Settings to save the configuration. The server must then be reloaded.

    Advanced Config processing

The above settings are the basis of each CS: S Serve and should be set. For all other fine settings, there is a config editor in text form under “Config Editor [extended] v2”

    Inserting maps

To upload a new map directly to the server, the map has to be uploaded via FTP.
    There are 2 possibilities:
    1. In the web interface under “FTP access data” you find the necessary data to connect to the server via FTP program (eg Filezilla).
    2. In the web interface under File Browser you will find an integrated FTP system.
No matter how you decide, the subsequent process remains the same. The maps are uploaded to the directory (srcds_l / css / cstrike / maps /) and then entered in the map list.

    The Maplist

In the Maplist ( “Config Editor [extended] v2”> maplist.txt), each map must be displayed on the server, eg. To be available for map voting. Each map must be written to a separate line. The RCON command can also be used to call up maps that are not entered in the map list, but are uploaded.

    The mapcycle

In the mapcycle all maps are entered which are to be called automatically by the server. These maps are displayed in the order listed. The map is changed either by reaching the maximum map time / maximum lap gain or by an administrator. The mapcycle is like the name already guessed leaves a cycle, ie. When the last map is finished, the first is called again.

    MOTD

The MOTD represents the message that is displayed to each player when entering the server in the large selection window. It usually consists of a section of a website that is integrated by <iframe>. The MOTD can be edited under “Config Editor [extended] v2”> motd.txt.

    CS: S and Plugins

    Plugins

The most common plugins can be found in the web interface under “Installation> HL 2: Plugins”. They can be installed and set directly via the web interface. The plugin zBlock is installed from the beginning and should not be uninstalled. If you are interested in the individual plugins you will find an exact guide to the settings on the respective developer site. I will only go into the most used (Mani Admin) here.

    Installing

To install plugins, select the “Install” option. A (successful) message appears (normally). To ensure that all settings of the Installed Plug-in are applied, the server should be restarted after an installation / modification. Most plugins create their own config which can be edited under “Config Editor [extended] v2”.

    Administration with ManiAdmin Plugin

The Mani Admin Plugin is probably the best known and most widely used plugin for CS: S and CS: GO Server to administrate and guarantee its players a pleasant playing experience.

How do I become an administrator?

The best adminplugin knows nothing if there is no administrator. To be recognized as an administrator by the Mani Admin Plugin, the name and the SteamID must be entered into the client.txt file of Mani ( “Config Editor [extended] v2”> clients.txt) The syntax (ie the form as the whole must be entered) is perfectly explained in the file with comments.

    ‘Continued for the YouTube video’

As announced in the video here are the commands used in tutorial. => Click here to go to the video

The file clients.txt must be created in the directory csgo / csgo / cfg / mani_admin_plugin and the following should be inserted:

    • “Clients.txt” { “Version” “1” “Groups” { “Immunity” { “Serveradmin” “a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v x y afk ping autojoin grav Immunity” “Clanmember” “a b c h k n afk ping grav autojoin Immunity” } “Admin” { “Serveradmin” “A B C T U V W X Y Z a b c d o p q q2 q3 r z adminClient grav pban spray” “Clanmember” “B D E F a b c o q q2 q3 s t v w x y admin pban spray” } } }

If this is done, the CS: GO or CS: S server must be connected. Then open the console and enter the following command chain ( MyName can be replaced by any name):

    1.

     rcon ma_client addclient "myname"

    2.

     rcon ma_client addsteam "MyName" "STEAM_ID"

    3.

     rcon ma_client AddAGroup "MyName" "Serveradmin"

    Ingame usage

To use the Mani Admin Plugin game, enter admin in the console. But since it is a huge effort to open the console every time, if you want to use mani, it would be most useful to bind to a key (I prefer “p” because it is never used and easy to reach. ) Just enter bind <key> <function> in the console to assign a key. In our case, bind p admin

    Live transmissions

What is more beautiful than watching his friends live losing, there are the so-called TV broadcasts. These work in CS: S similar to real TV transmission.

    Source TV

SourceTV is the most common form of transmission at Counterstrike and is also used in the ESL. In order to activate it, there is no need to select the checkbox “Activate” in the web interface under “SourceTV” and then save it. The STV IP appears directly above the checkbox.
All settings for SourceTV can be found in the SourceTV-Config ( “Config Editor [extended] v2”> sourcetv.cfg)

    HLTV

HLTV is like Source TV also a transmission possibility, however, is less complex. The HLTV server connected simply as a viewer to the server and varbusts thereby of course also a playground. All settings for HLTV can be found in the HLTV Config ( “Config Editor [extended] v2”> hltv.cfg)
