About

DarkRP is a gamemode based on LightRP . DarkRP was created by Rickster, and is contributed to by other authors. The latest version can be downloaded via Git or SVN from GitHub .

Jobs

In DarkRP, you receive a salary for each job. You can choose from a variety of jobs listed below. The jobs vary wildly in their style, as players have different tools to help them perform their specific job.

These are the class descriptions taken from the gamemode:

Citizen

The Citizen is the most basic level of society you can hold besides being a hobo. You have no specific role in city life.

Civil Protection

The protector of every citizen that lives in the city. You have the power to arrest criminals and protect innocents. Hit them with your arrest baton to put them in jail. Bash them with a stunstick and they might learn better than to disobey the law. The Battering Ram can break down the door of a criminal with a warrant for his/her arrest. The Battering Ram can also unfreeze frozen props(if enabled). Type /wanted <name> to alert the public to this criminal OR go to tab and warrant someone by clicking the warrant button.

Gangster (“Mobster” in some servers)

The lowest person of crime. A gangster generally works for the Mobboss who runs the crime family. The Mobboss sets your agenda and you follow it or you might be punished.

Mob Boss

The Mobboss is the boss of the criminals in the city. With his power he coordinates the gangsters and forms an efficient crime organization. He has the ability to break into houses by using a lockpick. The Mobboss also can unarrest you.

Gun Dealer

A gun dealer is the only person who can sell guns to other people. However, make sure you aren’t caught selling guns that are illegal to the public. /Buyshipment <name> to Buy a weapon shipment /Buygunlab to Buy a gunlab that spawns P228 pistols.

Medic

With your medical knowledge, you heal players to proper health. Without a medic, people can not be healed. Left click with the Medical Kit to heal other players. Right click with the Medical Kit to heal yourself.

Cook

As a cook, it is your responsibility to feed the other members of your city. You can spawn a microwave and sell the food you make: /Buymicrowave

Civil Protection Chief

The Chief is the leader of the Civil Protection unit. Coordinate the police forces to bring law to the city. Hit them with arrest baton to put them in jail. Bash them with a stunstick and they might learn better than to lead a life of crime. The Battering Ram can break down the door of a criminal with a warrant for his/her arrest. Type /wanted <name> to alert the public to this criminal. Type /jailpos to set the Jail Position.

Mayor

The Mayor of the city creates laws to serve the greater good of the people. If you are the mayor you may create and accept warrants. Type /wanted <name> to warrant a player. Type /jailpos to set the Jail Position. Type /lockdown initiate a lockdown of the city. Everyone must be inside during a lockdown. The cops patrol the area /unlockdown to end a lockdown.

Custom Jobs

The current edition of DarkRP allows admins to create custom jobs easily compared to the previous versions of DarkRP. Now, new jobs can be added with the DarkRP.createJob function in the DarkRPModification addon .

Builder

This class can be used as a solution to tool gun and physics gun abuse by only allowing this class to carry those weapons at the risk of being demoted if they abuse.

Drug Dealer

Similar to the gun dealer, but replace guns with drugs.

The Gamemode Itself

A lot of people think DarkRP in Garry’s Mod is stupid, boring and violent for RP. Previous versions of the Gamemode were poorly coded and as a result had several major issues until a recent revision of the code by it’s current developer FPtje. Players also think that pre-determined jobs and scripted entities ruin creativity for role players.

Deathmatching

DarkRP tends to attract deathmatchers and ruin the gamemode, but there are measures that can be taken to keep the peace.

• Raise gun prices or restrict them altogether.
• Set server variables to automatically kick random deathmatchers.
• Restrict prop spawning and/or the physics gun to prevent prop deathmatching. (as well as prop_surfing.)
• Enable noob-protection in the Propprotection
• Enable Spawn-protection through server commands
• Make the server private
• Have active and alert admins on the server
