Eco Global Survival Server Hosting FAQ

Eco Global Survival Server Hosting FAQ

Eco Global Survival throws a lot of interconnected systems at new players and server owners alike, and the same questions tend to come up: what hardware you need, which platforms are supported, and what just changed with Update 14. Here are the answers, starting with the basics.

    General Questions

Can I Play Eco in Single Player Mode?

Yes. Eco can be played in single player on your local computer. You can turn off the meteor entirely or adjust skill point gain and costs from your own game’s settings.

What Server Should I Play On?

Eco servers are hosted by players and communities, not by the developer. The in-game server browser lists the public servers people have set up, and the unofficial Eco Server Tracker shows which of those are the most active, though it doesn’t cover every server. The Eco Discord server is another place admins advertise theirs.

Do I Have to Pay to Play?

Yes. Eco is a paid game, available on Steam.

Eco Update 14: What Changed for Server Owners

Update 14 landed on August 6, 2026, and it reworks the garbage, module, and pollution systems. Here’s what server owners need to know before jumping back in.

Can I Migrate My Update 13 World to Update 14?

Full migration between major Eco versions isn’t supported, but Update 14 loads Update 13 worlds without issue. On load, it strips every module from your tables, converts each one to its Update 14 equivalent, and places them in void storage so you can reapply them later at the configured star cost.

Why Did My Ocean-Fed Machines Stop Working?

Update 14 adds salt water to the ocean, so any machine drawing crafting water directly from it stops working until you install a desalinator. Fresh water sources elsewhere on the map aren’t affected.

Why Don’t My Pipe Rooms Count as Valid Rooms Anymore?

Pipes lost their room tier in Update 14. Any room built from or containing pipes now needs those pipes replaced with building blocks before the game counts it as a valid room again.

Is It Still Safe to Bury Pollutants Underground?

No. Storing pollutants deep underground no longer contains them safely. An untreated pollutant store now pollutes the surrounding area quickly, and on default settings that can significantly cut the housing score of any residence caught inside the polluted radius.

Do My Mods and Server Overrides Still Work After Update 14?

Not without changes, in most cases. Update 14’s new garbage and module systems touch most game files, so almost every override needs small adjustments to match. A server won’t boot with an unadjusted override in place unless you remove it. Compiled mods that don’t add recipes or touch the module system will usually still let the server boot, but expect failures in use until they’re recompiled against Update 14.

    Eco Server Requirements and Compatibility

    What Are Eco’s System Requirements?

Minimum: an AMD Ryzen 5 1500X or Intel Core i5-6500 quad-core processor, 8GB of RAM, and an AMD Radeon R9 290 or NVIDIA GTX 970 graphics card with 4GB VRAM. You’ll need 4GB of free storage.

Recommended: 16GB of RAM, an AMD Radeon RX 5700 or NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 with 8GB VRAM, and 10GB of free storage.

    Can I Play on Mac?

Eco is available to play on Mac. Dedicated servers are Windows only; Mac server support hasn’t shipped.

    Can I Play on Linux?

Eco is available to play on Linux, and Nitrado offers a dedicated Eco Linux server alongside the standard Windows-based option.

    Gameplay Questions

I Just Started, and I Have No Idea What I’m Doing. How Do I Play?

There are active Eco player communities on the Eco Discord server and the official Eco forums, and both are good places to ask questions as you learn the game’s systems.

Why Can’t I Move or Look Around?

Press Tab to switch between the game’s two control modes. One shows a cursor so you can select and interact with items and menus; the other frees your camera so you can look around and move normally.

My Calories Are Going Down. Will I Die?

Your character won’t die when your calorie count hits zero, but your skill points freeze until you eat again.

How Do I Remove the Screen Capture Interface?

    Press Alt + Z.

    Bug Reports and Support

Where Can I Report a Bug?

Report bugs through the official GitHub issue tracker or the official Eco forums. Search first to make sure it hasn’t already been reported, and include the Eco version you’re running, your system specs, and the exact steps to reproduce the issue.
