ARK: Survival Evolved Server Whitelist – Enable a Whitelist

What Does an ARK Server Whitelist Do?

While adventuring in ARK servers, players encounter worlds where they’ll explore bewildering forests, solve mysteries in labyrinths, and even battle deadly corrupted creatures. When exploring the ARKs on servers, one of the greatest benefits is playing together safely as it provides many benefits. From sharing resources to taming a shared dinosaur army, and even building homesteads together. To play together safely in a world with only your friends, a whitelist will need to be created for your ARK server.

ARK server whitelist banner - protect your ARK servers

An ARK whitelist is a list set up on ARK: Survival Evolved game servers that limit only players on that list and players will your server password to be able to join. The server owner and admins managing the server are able to add and remove players to this list at any time. A whitelist is not required on an ARK server but will significantly protect an ARK server, stopping random players from joining and causing issues such as griefing. Follow us into the files of your ARK server as we show you how to set up an ARK server whitelist to keep your ARK game server safe!

How to Set Up an ARK Server Whitelist

Getting Steam64 IDs of Players to Whitelist

Before a whitelist can be set up on your ARK server, you will need to gather the Steam IDs of every player that you’d like to add to this whitelist. We’ll show you how to find and collect those IDs so that you can add them to your whitelist.

    1. To begin, ask for or find your friend’s and family’s Steam usernames. We recommend writing these usernames on a list.
    2. Next, go to the SteamID.io website. This website is where you’ll be able to look up usernames to collect their Steam 64 IDs.
    3. On the SteamID website, type in the Steam username of you, your friends, and your family one at a time and then press “lookup”.

    5. After a moment, the page will refresh and display that user’s Steam IDs. The ID you will need to remember and save for the next steps is the SteamID64. If you made a list of your friend’s and family’s usernames in step 1, you can copy and paste the SteamID64 next to each of their usernames for reference.

    7. Repeat this process for every friend and family member you plan to add to your ARK game server whitelist. Afterward, you’ll be ready to add those players to the whitelist!

How to Add Players to an ARK Server Whitelist

You’re ready to add those players to your server whitelist. Before you do, it’s important to know that the whitelist does still allow players to join if a server password is set and they know the password. If the server is full a whitelisted player will have more priority and this can result in a non-whitelisted player being kicked so that the whitelisted player can join.

There is another type of ARK whitelist called an exclusive list that you can activate instead that disables the ARK password and makes it so that only players on that list can join. If you would like to set up an ARK exclusive list instead, please scroll below to our “How to Set Up an ARK Exclusive List” section.

    1. Firstly, head to your ARK server panel and stop your server.
    2. Once your ARK server is offline, on the left side under “Settings”, click “General” to edit your server and whitelist settings.
    3. In your ARK general settings, scroll down until you see the “Player” section with the “Whitelist” option directly below that.

Using Commands to Add and Remove Players from the Whitelist

    1. To use the ARK whitelist commands, start by ensuring you are an ARK server admin.
    2. Once you have admin access, you can use the following commands to edit the whitelist:
      • cheat DisallowPlayerToJoinNoCheck STEAMID64 | Removes a player from the server whitelist.
      • cheat AllowPlayerToJoinNoCheck STEAMID64 | Adds a player to the ARK whitelist for your server.

Not only that but you can use an exclusive list to take that even further so that only players on that list can join. Are you ready to set up an ARK server whitelist on your own server? Create a whitelist on your ARK: Survival Evolved server today and have peace of mind knowing you, your players, and your server are safe and secure!
