How to Disable Shared Quests in Windrose

How to Disable Shared Quests in Windrose

Managing a crew of survivors in Windrose often means balancing different playstyles and progression speeds. While playing with friends is an amazing experience, the shared quest system can occasionally feel restrictive for players who prefer to earn every achievement or reward by themselves. Due to this, some users might want to know how to disable shared quests. In this Nitrado guide, we’ll show you all the steps necessary to do that on your own Windrose server 👏

Shared quests in Windrose are designed to streamline the multiplayer experience by marking missions “complete” for everyone once a single player finishes it. This includes milestones like the tutorial, which some users might want to do themselves. Disabling this feature ensures that everyone has their own individual quest progression. With shared quests turned off, each journey for players in the server will have personalized adventures.

    Disabling Shared Quests

    1. Navigate to your Nitrado Web Interface and stop your server.
    2. Head towards Tools > File Browser on the left in the Dashboard.
    3. Enter this directory: R5 / Saved / SaveProfiles / Default / RocksDB
    4. Open the folder with a version number (e.g., 0.10.0), then enter Worlds.
    5. Locate the folder corresponding to your active world (the name has a long string of random letters and numbers).
    6. Find the WorldDescription.json file and edit it.
    7. Search for the following line of code:
      "{\"TagName\": \"WDS.Parameter.Coop.SharedQuests\"}": true,
    8. Change the value from true to false to disable the shared progression.
    9. Save the changes to the file, then start up the server!

    Frequently Asked Questions

Will disabling this setting reset my current progress?
No. This setting is not retroactive. Any quests that have already been completed by the group will remain finished. The change only dictates how the server handles quest completions moving forward from the moment the server restarts.

Can I toggle this while players are online?
While you can technically edit files while the server is active, it is highly discouraged. Servers often sync data upon shutdown, which can overwrite your manual edits. Always stop the server first to ensure your configurations are properly applied.

    Master Your Windrose Journey

Once your server returns online, every survivor will be responsible for their own destiny. Remember, this ensures that every reward is earned and every story beat is personally experienced. This adjustment creates a more satisfying environment for those who want to savor every detail of the world at their own pace 🎮
