Being a barbarian in Conan Exiles takes a lot of courage and power as you take on devastating foes, explore land high and low, and improve your character to conquer the lands. Improving a character in Conan Exiles makes that character powerful, provides better defense, and even adds new abilities. One material, in particular, that is needed to evolve a character is steel bars.

Steel is used not only for better armor and weapons but also for many other items, decorations, and buildings. When making steel there are many tools and materials needed to create steel including an artisan’s table, tannery, cauldron, and furnace. In this guide, we will show you every step to how to make steel in Conan Exiles to enhance your character further on your Conan Exiles server!

STEEL – CONAN EXILES BASICS

REQUIREMENTS TO MAKE STEEL BARS

CONSTRUCTION HAMMER

To begin, you will need a variety of equipment and materials to make steel in Conan Exiles. The first and most important tool you’ll need is the Construction Hammer. This hammer is used to access the building GUI to create all of the other buildings you’ll need.

• 20 Wood | You can collect wood by using an axe on trees and logs.
• 5 Twine
  • Survivalist Level 1 feat | Allows for crafting twine in your player inventory.
  • 60 Plant Fibers | Plant fibers are gathered by using the pickup option around bushes. This will pick up the fibers. You will need 15 plant fibers to make 5 twines.

ARTISAN’S WORKTABLE

Next, the Artisan’s Worktable is needed. This table is used to create the Firebowl Cauldron:

• Artisan’s Worktable | The worktable allows you to create the Firebowl Cauldron within it.
  • 40 Wood | Obtainable by hitting trees with an axe.

TANNERY AND TAR

The next piece of equipment you will need is a Tannery. A Tannery can be created in the Construction Hammer item’s construction menu. The Tannery is used to tan hides as well as provide tar. Tar is a vital resource for many recipes including making another resource, steelfire.

• Tannery
  • Level 10 Tanner feat | Unlocking this feat allows you to create a tannery.
  • 240 Stone | Gather stones by hitting rocks with a pickaxe.
  • 160 Wood | You can get wood by using an axe on trees.
  • 38 Bark | Use a pick or pickaxe on dead trees and logs to gather bark and wood.
  • 20 Twine
    • Survivalist Level 1 feat | Allows for crafting twine in your player inventory.
    • 60 Plant Fibers | Plant fibers are collected by using the pickup option around bushes. This will pick up the fibers. You will need 60 plant fibers to make 20 twines.

FIREBOWL CAULDRON AND STEELFIRE

With the Artisan’s Worktable, you can now make a Firebowl Cauldron. The cauldron will be used to make steelfire, one of the resources needed to make steel bars.

• Firebowl Cauldron
  • Level 10 Furniture Maker feat | By unlocking this feat, at level 40 you will unlock the Ironmonger recipe needed to make a Firebowl Cauldron.
  • 50 Iron bars | Made by smelting ironstone to iron bars in a furnace.
  • 20 Twine
    • Survivalist Level 1 feat | Once unlocked, you can craft twine in your player inventory.
    • 60 Plant Fibers | By using the pickup option around bushes, you can find and gather plant fibers. 60 plant fibers are needed to make 20 twines.

After using the Tannery to make plenty of tar, you can now use the Firebowl Cauldron to combine the tar and brimstone to make steelfire:

• 1 Steelfire | Steelfire is created by combining two tar and brimstone in a cauldron.
  • 2 Tar | Tar is a by-product of tanning hides in a tannery. When hide and bark are placed in the tannery, not only will the hides get tanned but you will also get tar too.
  • 1 Brimstone | One of the best places to find brimstone is at the Shattered Springs in the Exiled Lands. By defeating Brimstone Rocknoses and harvesting the brimstone nodes at this location, you can gather a lot of brimstone.

FURNACE AND IRON BARS

A furnace is necessary to smelt iron bars and eventually, steel bars. A furnace can be created in the Construction Hammar item’s construction menu. Once the furnace is created and you’ve made enough iron bars, you’ll then be ready to create steel on your game and dedicated Conan Exiles server.

• Furnace
  • Level 10 Stone Tools feat | After unlocking this feat, you’ll be able to make a furnace.
  • 540 Stone | Stone is found across the Exiled Lands. Use a pickaxe to harvest stones.

• 5 Iron bars | Made inside a furnace by placing ironstone and fuel inside.
  • 10 Ironstone | Ironstone is found naturally as nodes in the desert area surrounding the river of the Exiled Lands. When smelted using a furnace, two ironstones will make an iron bar. You will need 10 ironstones to make 5 iron bars.
  • Coal or Wood | These items are added to a furnace and are used as fuel to smelt the ironstone to iron bars.

HOW TO MAKE STEEL BARS IN CONAN EXILES

After gathering all the requirements, it’s time to start making steel bars. Take all of your steelfire and iron bars and place them inside your furnace. It will take 5 iron bars and 1 steelfire, along with fuel for your furnace, to make steel bars. After a few moments, those materials will smelt. After smelting the materials, you will get steel bars to use on your Conan Exiles game server.

WHAT IS MADE WITH STEEL IN CONAN EXILES?

IMPROVED WEAPONS AND ARMOR

Steel is an upgrade of iron and by making steel, you can now improve your tools, weapons, and armor to the next level with new strengths and protection. Many of these tools you can create are made inside Armorer’s Benches and Blacksmith’s Benches.

SANDSTORM BREATHING MASK

It’s important to protect yourself in the harsh terrain of Conan Exiles. A valuable piece of equipment to protect yourself from sandstorms suffocating and killing you, the Sandstorm Breathing Mask is a mask you can make in an Armorer’s Bench with steel and light padding. Once the mask is equipped, you’ll be safe to travel the desert without worrying about the weather.

UNIQUE BUILDINGS

With the power of steel bars, you can now craft several different building items. These items include the Circle of Power, Orb of Nergal, Torturer’s Worktable, and Blacksmith’s Bench.

• The Circle of Power is a brick and steel circle marked in chalk and is used to communicate with demons and have them join you.
• Using the Orb of Nergal, a blood sacrifice bench with a dark orb on top, you can edit everything on your character except the set gender.
• With the might of steel bars and shaped wood, the Torturer’s Worktable is a table designed to inflict severe pain on others.
• Creator of powerful weapons and armor, the Blacksmith’s Bench will take your gear to the next level allowing you to take on difficult foes.
