How To Create a Local Backup of Your Gameserver – Introduction

Creating a local backup of your gameserver is crucial for preserving your game data and ensuring you can restore your progress if needed. Before diving into the backup process, make sure you’re familiar with using FTP and creating local backups. If you need guidance, follow the links provided here:

Please note: Compatibility issues may arise with single-player save games or saves from older patches. This guide uses ARK: Survival Evolved (ARK: SE) as an example, but the general principles apply to various games.

    Where do you start?

    • Begin by accessing the web interface of your server. To start the backup process, you’ll need to stop the server completely. Click the “Stop Server” button and allow 3 to 5 minutes for the server to shut down fully.

      • Connect to the FTP of your server via FileZilla.
      • Navigate to the remote side to locate your game save folder.
      • For ARK: Survival Evolved, follow this path to find your save folder: /arkse/ShooterGame/Saved/SavedArks
    • Once you’ve located the “SavedArks” folder, drag it into a secure folder on your local site.

By following these steps, you ensure that your game data is safely backed up and secure from potential data loss. Regular backups are an essential part of game management and can save you from the frustration of losing progress due to unforeseen issues.
