Rabbits have a 10% chance to breed each time the player sleeps, provided there are 2 to 4 rabbits in a cage.
Currently, red paint is found in open paint buckets located in various places on the peninsula, often accompanied by a paintbrush. Once picked up, the player automatically wears it. Cannibals, upon seeing the player in red paint, may act passively (though they can still become hostile if attacked). Their interactions with the player include: following and staring, stepping back when approached, or even kneeling and praying to the player as if he were a divine entity of significance to the cannibal tribe. The red paint can affect all cannibals in the area, causing them to kneel.
However, if the player attacks, cannibals will turn hostile again. Cannibals that are kneeling may rise after a short time and resume hostility, or some may remain kneeling. Pale cannibals are known to remain kneeling at times. Mutants are unaffected by the red paint.
Note: The red paint will be washed off by rain or if the player swims in any water source.
Effigies are mainly used to instill fear in cannibals and keep them away from the player, similar to the effect of red paint. Cannibals react to effigies in almost the same way they react to a player wearing red paint. Most cannibals will avoid the player, but some may still attack. This behavior is intentional, as the developers introduced some variability to prevent players from easily predicting cannibal behavior.
The developers designed this “fuzziness” in the AI to add immersion to the game. Whether effigies are worth using depends on the player, but many find them inconsistent due to this unpredictable behavior.
Building an effigy won’t stop the cannibals from attacking, they may approach a burning effigy with caution or run away from it or even ignore the effigy. If the player approaches the cannibals, they will often attack the player with complete disregard for the effigy as approaching cannibals is deemed as an act of aggression.
To remove most buildings, you can use the Hole Cutter. However, some buildings may have holes cut into them using this method. To destroy such buildings, attack them repeatedly until they are demolished. Make sure you have ‘Building Destruction’ turned on, otherwise, they won’t be able to be destroyed. You can find this option in the game menu under Gameplay.
Hit tree stumps with a weapon until they break. The number of hits required depends on your weapon’s damage. Tree stumps cannot grow back unless you use console commands or mods.
To finish the game, you will need the following items: Rebreather, Climbing Axe, and the Keycard. Once all these items have been collected, find a way to reach the bottom of the sinkhole. There is a water-based cave in the lake at the center that will lead you to the endgame, though it is challenging.
First of all, try not to panic! Mutants have much higher health than cannibals and deal significantly more damage. They take much more damage before they go down, but they will eventually die. Using a crafted bow or a modern bow is one of the easiest ways to kill them since it allows you to maintain distance. Fire is also effective, so try using Molotov cocktails or fire arrows. Mutants won’t run away from bombs, making explosives a good option as well. Traps can be useful too. With practice, you will find the method that works best for you.
Yes, they can be difficult to deal with. The developers designed them this way to keep the game challenging. They are intended to be strong to instill a sense of fear in players, forcing them to carefully consider how they survive on the island. Most of the cannibals wandering around are scouting parties. The plane crash made a lot of noise, so it makes sense that they would come to investigate.
Fire and traps are highly effective methods for dealing with cannibals.
If you press ‘R’ while in front of a stick marker, it will change its color.
You can share many items by using storage units. Simply build a storage unit and place items in it for other players to grab. Items such as medicine, soft drinks, snacks, explosives, weapons, logs, sticks, stones, and more can be shared.
Since update 0.30, the ‘metal tin tray’ can also be used to share most items with other survivors.
Placing a climbing rope inside such structures and climbing on it will allow you to escape from your sudden imprisonment.
Combining 7 pieces of fabric will create a rope.
1 drink + multiple normal arrows → multiple fire arrows
Hold down the ‘L’ key for half a second to use your lighter while you have the crafted bow equipped to set a fire arrow on fire.
Combine the handmade bow with the normal or fire arrow to choose the type of arrow you want to use. Your character will automatically ignite the arrowheads, burning a piece of cloth in the process.
Make sure to combine the handmade bow and a fire arrow on the crafting mat to choose fire arrows as your arrows of choice. Otherwise, your player character may choose to use a normal arrow that cannot be set on fire.
Also, press ‘L’ again to put the lighter back in your inventory.
Yes, use tree sap to attach teeth or alcohol to a melee weapon to increase its attack damage. (This will not affect the number of blows needed to cut logs!)
Alternatively, adding feathers will reduce stamina drain and increase attack speed.
The maximum limit for weapon upgrades is 30 feathers, teeth, or alcohol in total. For example: ’30 feathers’ or ’15 feathers + 15 teeth’.
It appears that your character will smash a bottle of alcohol and then place its glass shards on the melee weapon of your choice.
If you want to modify a weapon’s upgrades, build a weapon rack and place the weapon on it. Then, get another weapon of the same type to improve it differently.
Yes, you can right-click while holding the ‘Left Ctrl’ key to combine 10 items at once. This works for items such as leaves, feathers, teeth, tree sap, and more.
This is a known bug in both single-player and co-op modes. It can usually be fixed 90% of the time by shooting an arrow, and it can be 100% fixed by reloading or restarting the game.
You can also try hitting a tree with the axe. Sometimes the game mistakenly thinks you are trying to cut down a tree, and the lack of a nearby tree to hit prevents you from swinging properly until you find one.
Other possible causes for this issue include:
Hit them with melee weapons until they break, or use explosives to make them explode. 😉
Go to the ‘Custom Build’ section of the crafting guide, select ‘Climbing Rope,’ and then press the ‘E (use)’ key while looking at a platform. This will take 1 rope from your inventory and attach it to the platform like a climbing rope. 😉
Yes, you can store them on Log Sleds by pressing ‘C,’ just like you do with logs. The corpses will remain there even after loading a saved game. 😉
Yes! Look around and you’ll find a Plane Axe near your hands. Grab it and free yourself!
Additionally, saving and reloading your game will restore your extra life. 😉
