    ARK: Survival Evolved

Top 5 ARK Dinosaurs for Your ARK: Survival Evolved Server

    INTRODUCTION TO ARK DINOSAURS

In the beautiful world of ARK, hundreds of wonderful creatures roam the lands from the docile to the outright dangerous. With so many dinosaurs, knowing the best dinosaur and how to tame them is important to conquering the lands of ARK and defending against players who threaten your homestead.

ARK dinosaurs each have their own unique traits and abilities that make them extremely useful, whether they have a great storage inventory, amazing mobility, or the strongest attacks for PvP battles, and knowing which dinosaurs are the best to tame as you play on your server is important. We will show you the top five dinosaurs that you can tame and rule the lands together with friends on your very own ARK server!

TOP ARK DINOSAURS IN ARK: SURVIVAL EVOLVEDTITANOSAUR

    ARK Titanosaur dinosaur

    INFORMATION

A peaceful dinosaur in the wild, the Titanosaur is the largest dinosaur currently in ARK. Growing to a size of around 30 meters or 100 feet long, this creature towers above all and not only has the highest health of all creatures at 230,000 but also has the highest base damage at a whopping 1000 damage!

    LOCATION

The majestic Titanosaur is easy to spot due to its height and can be found across many different ARK maps and DLC including throughout The Island, in The Center near the bottom of the map, throughout Scorched Earth, primarily on the right side of Ragnarok, in the middle of Crystal Isles, and on the right side of Lost Island.

    TAMING

Instead of taming with food, the Titanosaur requires that you knock it out and use a saddle. Once tamed, it’s important to note that the creature will not eat and will instead starve itself, making the Titanosaur a temporary tame only.

    • Attack the head of the Titanosaur with a catapult turret, ballista turret, rocket turret, or cannon. Keep an eye on the health of this creature to avoid killing it.
    • Once the Titanosaur is knocked down, enter its inventory and place a saddle on it to immediately tame the creature.
    • A timer of 16-20 hours will now start, where you will be able to use the Titanosaur as a tame until it dies of starvation.

    MEGACHELON

    ARK Megachelon dinosaur

    INFORMATION

The Megachelon is a turtle creature featuring six legs, and four eyes, and is so huge that you can build your own home right on its shell! A docile creature, while slow the Megachelon has one of the strongest base damage attacks in ARK and so it’s good to avoid getting hit at all costs.

    LOCATION

You can find Megachelon swimming throughout the deep oceans in both the Genesis: Part 1 DLC within the open water and on Lost Island in the waters at the bottom middle and very left corner of the map. The Megachelon will generate air bubbles around its shell to the surface when submerged underwater to assist with locating it!

    TAMING

    • Locate an untamed Parakeet Fish School/Microbe Swarm in the deeper depths of the water and allow it to target you.
    • Slowly lead the fish school back to the Megachelon. These fish must be targeting you when you near the Megachelon.
    • If the fish school becomes distracted and no longer follows you, you will either need to leave the area and return or find another school to follow you.
    • It’s also important to ensure that no fish such as Megalodons are attacking the Megachelon as this resets the taming process.
    • The Megachelon will become tame after some time from the school as long as they’re not killed.
    • If the fish school is killed, you can find another school to continue the process!

    ANDREWSARCHUS

    ARK Andrewsarchus dinosaur

    INFORMATION

A creature voted in by the community in the newest ARK Fjordur DLC, the Andrewsarchus has a large snout and is very wolf-like, featuring full utility use to introduce saddles and turrets on the creature for the ultimate gun and run whether you’re playing PvE or PvP!

    LOCATION

You can find an Andrewsarchus marauding about in the top right of the ARK Fjordur DLC map around the mountain areas, roaming around as they search for food throughout the map.

    TAMING

    • Creep up behind an Andrewsarchus and throw giant bee honey in front of it.
    • Wait for the creature to eat and then sneak up behind it, mounting it to start the tame.
    • White arrows will appear indicating left or right and when pressed and held correctly, will progress the taming bar.
    • A red rage bar will appear behind the taming progress bar. Before this fills up, jump off to avoid being kicked off.
    • After performing this a few times, you’ll have a tamed Andrewsarchus!

    WYVERN

    ARK Wyverns dinosaur

    INFORMATION

Wyverns are ferocious flying creatures in ARK that appear as dragons, with many different types including Poison Wyverns, Fire Wyverns, Lightning Wyverns, Ice Wyverns, Forest Wyverns, and even the deadly Corrupted Wyvern. When near one, Wyverns become extremely aggressive and will hunt you down with the only exception being Forest Wyverns.

    LOCATION

Dangerous flying creatures, Wyverns feature a variety of unique flying creatures found throughout many different ARK maps and DLCs including Scorched Earth, Ragnarok, Valguero, Lost Island, Extinction, and in the Genesis Part 1 and Part 2 maps. Each map contains different types of Wyverns to discover and tame. Wyverns are often found around mountainous areas and dragon trenches in your dedicated ARK server world.

    TAMING

Unlike most dinosaurs, Wyverns cannot be tamed as adults and must instead be tamed by getting a Wyvern egg and keeping it safe and warm until it hatches. Once hatched, that Wyvern will be the same level as the adult that laid it.

    • Locate and grab a Wyvern egg.
    • Keep the Wyvern egg between 80 – 90°C or 176 – 194°F.
    • You can place heat-generating objects such as torches and campfires, although, these will need to be constantly adjusted to account for changing outdoor temperatures.
    • You can also keep the egg near a Dimetrodon along with heat-generating objects to help keep better consistency.
    • The newest and best method is to simply use an Egg Incubator which can store and incubate up to 10 Wyvern eggs, however, the temperature must be set manually.
    • After about 5 hours of perfect temperature, the Wyvern egg will hatch.
    • If there are inconsistencies with the temperature, this can take longer.
    • Once hatched, you will need to care for the creature until it grows to be an adult.
    • The baby Wyvern will eventually need Wyvern milk when its hunger bar drops and this is required for it to grow.
    • You can acquire Wyvern milk by killing alpha Wyvern which gets you 50 Wyvern milk, or by harvesting it from a knocked-out regular Wyvern which nets you 5.
    • After some time of feeding your baby Wyvern, it will become an adult!

    GIGANOTOSAURUS

    ARK GIGANOTOSAURUS dinosaur

    INFORMATION

An extremely dangerous predator, the Giganotosaurus whose name means “giant southern lizard”, will walk about the land taking out anything that gets in their path, and because of this, you can often find them throughout most parts of maps as they wonder. With their ferocity, Giganotosaurus has the second-best health and attack damage in the game making them a serious threat.

    LOCATION

Giganotosaurus are everywhere! You can find these creatures roaming across entire maps due to them being the apex predator, and they are located within most regions of The Island, The Center, Ragnarok, Valguero, Crystal Isles, Genesis, Lost Island, and there is even a corrupted version located in Extinction!

    TAMING

The Giganotosaurus requires a large amount of food and time to tame, but it can be done!

    • You will need to deal a large amount of damage with tranquilizer darts.
    • One way to make this simpler, use Metal Dinosaur Gateway to build a room leaving one side open with a large bear trap placed in the center. When building, avoid using snap points to make the enclosure large enough.
    • Wait for the Giganotosaurus to get caught in the trap and then block off the enclosure.
    • Once the Giganotosaurus is down, allow the torpor of the creature to become low and then spam several hundred narcotics into it to restore its torpor. As a reference, 100 narcotics will restore 4000 torpor.
    • You can now feed the creature, returning after each feeding cooldown to continue to feed the Giganotosaurus until it is tame.
    • If the torpor gets low, you can use more narcotics to increase this again.
