Windrose – How to Fix ‘Server Not Found’

If you’re trying to join a Windrose server using an invite code and keep getting a ‘Server Not Found’ error, you’re not alone. This usually happens when the code isn’t entered correctly, server is offline, networking issues, among other reasons. Whether it’s on your end or the server’s side, there are various solutions to try out. Troubleshooting Basics

Before more advanced or complicated solutions, we strongly recommend trying these out.

• Update Windrose: Make sure you are playing on the latest version of the game and there are no available updates in Steam for it.
• Restart Server: Head towards your Nitrado Web Interface and restart the server. This helps with connections and also ensures the server game files are fully updated.
• Restart Steam / Game: Restarting both can clear temporary connection issues or stalled sessions that may prevent invite codes from working properly.
• Verify Game Files: Corrupted or missing files can interfere with connections. In Steam, right-click Windrose > Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files.

DNS & Firewall Settings

Connection issues can often stem from how your computer communicates with Windrose’s backend services. Whether it’s caused by your DNS settings or Firewall configuration, it can prevent the invite code from working properly.

• Change DNS Settings: Switching to a public provider can improve reliability. Set your DNS to 8.8.8.8 (Google) or 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare) in your DNS settings on the computer.
• Flush DNS: Clearing your DNS cache ensures your system fetches fresh connection data. Open Command Prompt as administrator and run the ipconfig /flushdns command.
• Whitelist Required Domains: If you’re using custom DNS filters or network-level blockers, make sure essential backend services (such as wirose.support) are allowed. Blocking these can prevent invite codes from resolving correctly.
• Allow Windrose Through Firewall: Go to Windows Defender Firewall > Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall. Ensure both Windrose.exe and Server.exe are enabled for Private and Public networks. Do something similar if you’re using a third-party application to manage your firewall.
