What is the PerformanceSaver Plugin?

Even without a heavy mod load, a Hytale server’s resource usage can spike unexpectedly. For example, if ten players suddenly split up to explore different parts of the map, the server must load significantly more chunks than if they stayed together. This can lead to CPU strain and RAM consumption that impacts gameplay.

The Nitrado PerformanceSaver Plugin acts as an automated stability manager. It monitors your server’s health in real-time and adjusts settings dynamically to prevent crashes and maintain a smooth experience, ensuring your hardware resources are used efficiently.

Key Features

This plugin works silently in the background to handle three critical areas of server performance:

1. Dynamic View Radius Adjustment

This is the core feature of the plugin. It detects “pressure” on your server—specifically low TPS (Ticks Per Second) or high RAM usage (frequent Garbage Collection).

• How it works: If the server struggles, the plugin temporarily reduces the view radius to free up resources.
• The Benefit: As soon as the server stabilizes, it gradually increases the view radius back to normal. This prevents crashes during intense moments without permanently sacrificing visual quality.

2. Smart TPS Limiting

Consistency is key for a good multiplayer experience.

• Active Play: The plugin limits the server to a configurable standard (Default: 20 TPS). This prevents the server from wasting resources trying to run faster than necessary, ensuring smooth player movement and interaction.
• Idle Mode: When the server is empty, it limits the TPS further (Default: 5 TPS), drastically reducing CPU load when no one is playing.

3. Additional Garbage Collection

Java-based games sometimes struggle to “let go” of unused memory.

• The plugin observes the number of loaded chunks and triggers an additional Garbage Collection cycle only when it calculates that a significant amount of memory can be freed. This keeps your RAM usage optimized without causing lag spikes from unnecessary cleaning.

• TpsLimitEmpty: The tick rate when the server is empty (Default: 5).
• GarbageCollectionDelaySeconds: How long a chunk stays loaded after a player leaves it. Lowering this can save RAM but may cause more CPU load if players move back and forth frequently.
