INSIDE MINECRAFT LIVE 2022

MINECRAFT 1.20 – WHAT IS IN STORE FOR MINECRAFT

MINECRAFT IS CHANGING GAME UPDATES

Before the latest news on what is in store for Minecraft, Mojang Studios announced that they’ll be changing the way updates are discussed in the future. Through listening to community feedback, Mojang Studios now intends to only reveal features that are far along in development. This helps to reduce the risk of features being delayed or canceled after being revealed such as archaeology and fireflies. Part of this change also means that Minecraft 1.20 does not yet have a name but one will be revealed closer to the release of the update. Mojang Studios will be working hard to be as transparent and honest as possible about their updates and this is an exciting change for Minecraft!

BRAND NEW CHARACTERS IN MINECRAFT JOIN STEVE AND ALEX

More characters are coming to the world of Minecraft to join Steve and Alex! Through Mojang Studio’s mission to improve diversity and inclusivity in Minecraft, seven more default characters are being added. Soon, players will be able to choose between any of the nine characters when first starting Minecraft. The new characters will also have their own names Ari, Efe, Kai, Makene, Noor, Sunny, and Zuri. Aside from being player characters, you’ll also see them in Mojang Studio’s marketing, trailers, and merchandise alongside their friends Steve and Alex! This incredible group of characters is set to arrive later this year, likely between November and December 2022 through an update.

HANGING SIGNS WILL BE SWINGING INTO MINECRAFT

During the event, Mojang Studios released details on the first features players will see once Minecraft 1.20 is released. The first of those features, Hanging Signs, offers a new way to display signs on your structures and buildings. Hanging signs will be constructed using stripped logs and chains, which can be created in every possible sign color. When placing a hanging sign, you’ll be able to place them on the underside and side of most blocks including fences. These signs will make for quite the fun decorations and story-telling for adventure map creators!

BAMBOO WOOD PLANKS – NEW BUILDINGS

Bamboo is getting a new use in the 1.20 update, effectively serving as a new style of wood and blocks! In the update, you’ll be able to craft bamboo planks, stairs, doors, trapdoors, and exclusive bamboo mosaic blocks. Additionally, bamboo will be used to craft a new boat variant called rafts and rafts with chests. What will you be creating with the new bamboo blocks on your Minecraft server?

CHISELED BOOKSHELVES ARE GETTING CHISELED INTO MINECRAFT

A new type of bookshelf is also coming in Minecraft 1.20! Called the chiseled bookshelf, this block is fully functional allowing you to store up to six books on each shelf. Players can add and remove books with ease and without any UI menu. Chiseled bookshelves will also support redstone, bringing the possibility of even more fun to be had with these new blocks!

NEW MOB – CAMELS ARE ENTERING MINECRAFT

Camels are a new mob coming in Minecraft 1.20, ready to take you where you need to go! Friendly creatures mainly found in desert villages, unlike horses that can jump quite high, camels can’t jump but instead can “dash”. This dash ability, paired with the Camel’s ability to have a two-person saddle, unlocks new ways to travel as a group in Minecraft! Camels will be bred using cactus and will be very tall compared to most other mobs. Camel farms in Minecraft will be the cutest thing when playing on a server!

SOME FEATURES WON’T MAKE IT IN MINECRAFT UPDATE 1.20

Minecraft 1.20 is going to be very interesting and with four exciting features having been announced, there is still a lot to look forward to. With that though, there are also features that have been confirmed to not be coming in Minecraft 1.20. The features confirmed to not be coming in Minecraft 1.20 include:

  • There are no planned updates or overhauls for existing biomes.
  • Fireflies will not be added in Minecraft 1.20. (Fireflies were originally removed from The Wild Update of Minecraft due to how they were hurting Frogs)
  • Combat between Java Edition and Bedrock Edition is planned to be adjusted to be the same in both games, however, this won’t be arriving in the 1.20 update.

Other previous features such as Archaeology were not mentioned at Minecraft Live, although, we would love to see it come in a future update. It’s great to see that Mojang Studios is taking the time to inform players of features that won’t be in 1.20 but may be coming in future updates.

MINECRAFT MOB VOTE WINNER – THE SNIFFER

What a wild Mojang Minecraft mob vote! This year featured a crazy battle between the “Tuff Golem”, a house statue and assistant, the “Sniffer”, an adorable ancient seed finder, and the “Rascal”, an underground treasure hide-and-seek specialist. You can learn more about the mobs featured in the Minecraft Mob Vote here.

MOJANG MINECRAFT MOB VOTE – ROUND 1

In total, over 3.5 million votes were sent in for this contest and the Mojang Minecraft mob vote featured two rounds. During the first round of the Minecraft Live mob vote, it was concluded that the Tuff Golem had been eliminated. It was now down to the latest two, the Sniffer vs the Rascal.

MINECRAFT MOB VOTE – ROUND 2

After a fierce second round and a whole lot of votes, the contest concluded. The tally returned, revealing that this year’s winner of the Mojang Minecraft mob vote is the Sniffer! Having over half the total votes in the contest, the Sniffer is now set to come into Minecraft in a future update.

THE SNIFFER WILL BE COMING TO MINECRAFT

The Minecraft Sniffer is an ancient mob that can be revived by finding underwater eggs and taking care of them until they hatch. Using its keen sense of smell, the Sniffer will assist players in finding ancient seeds. Ancient Seeds will add another amazing feature to Minecraft, ancient plants. Ancient plants hold a lot of potential with possible new plants, foods, and recipes.

The team at Nitrado loved the Sniffer for its ancient seed-finding ability and I felt it was also just the cutest mob of the three! We hope though that maybe one day, the Rascal and the mighty Tuff Golem will have their chance to shine and be a part of the world of Minecraft. Congratulations to the adorable Sniffer and it’ll be exciting to see what is in store at the next Minecraft mob vote!

MINECRAFT LEGENDS UPDATES AND INFORMATION

NEW MOBS, SKILLS, AND TOOLS TO FIGHT BACK

At the very start of Minecraft Live 2022, Minecraft legends were featured with new details being provided about the upcoming game coming in 2023. Mojang Studios explains that, unlike previous Minecraft games, Minecraft Legends will focus on its narrative campaign more than ever. Fully voiced mobs will appear in this game’s Overworld, bringing with it an ecosystem of different adorable mobs. The game will even feature a handful of brand-new mobs such as the badger and a tiger. Of the new mobs, this includes “The Hosts”.

The Hosts are a group named Foresight, Action, and Knowledge based on the skills players will need to use to save the world. Working alongside the player, the Hosts provide knowledge and tools for the player to use in the story of Minecraft Legends. Three powerful tools and skills were showcased including the Flame of Creation used to build friendly mob spawners, the Banner of Courage used to direct followers, and a magic Lute used to summon Allays to help with gathering resources and building.

Watch all of the information revealed for Minecraft Legends and what’s to come next!:

A VIEW OF A FASCINATING NEW WORLD

Speaking of gathering resources and building, Minecraft Legends showcased a live demo of online co-op gameplay for Minecraft Legends where four separate players played together! This gameplay footage displayed a beautiful world beaming with life. The players worked together to fight in combat together with friendly mobs against deadly Piglins invading the Overworld. Of those Piglins, a new type of Piglin was introduced called the varied Piglin with unique abilities, traits, and designs.

Traveling through the world, you can see several different types of biomes from plains, forests, deserts, and even corrupt areas from portals. In the world, using the game’s UI and various tools, the player could recruit mobs, collect resources, and have Allay build structures such as bridges. With structures, we can also see unique world features such as Speed Weeds and Bounce Caps! These structures temporarily increase movement speed and jump height for players near them.

MINECRAFT LEGENDS COMING IN 2023

Announced towards the end of this section of Minecraft Live 2022, Mojang Studios mentioned that Minecraft Legends would be coming in this upcoming Spring of 2023! We have presented an amazing look at Minecraft Legends, from the new mobs that speak to skills that offer fun utility when playing. This will be one of the most anticipated titles for early 2023 and I know I’ll be grabbing a group of friends to conquer the Piglins!

After the launch, Minecraft Legends was revealed to continue with expansions and new content to evolve the game. It’s exciting to imagine everything that could be coming in Minecraft Legends! After all the information about Minecraft Legends, Mojang Studios ended by providing a view of the opening cinematic for Minecraft Legends.

MINECRAFT DUNGEONS – UPDATES AND IMPROVEMENTS

SEASON 3 FAUNA FAIRE WITH ANIMALS AND GAME BALANCING

Minecraft Dungeons will soon be entering season three and with that, the game received an announcement that the next update will be called Fauna Faire. This update will contain the ultimate wildlife package of animals and animal-themed cosmetics. Fauna Faire is set to start on October 19th for all Minecraft Dungeons players. Here is everything you can expect in the Minecraft Dungeons Season 3 update, Fauna Faire:

  • A brand new Adventure Pass, similar to other game Battle Passes, where there are free and premium tiers that can be completed for rewards.
  • The Minecraft Dungeons camp is seeing a makeover with brand-new lighting and decorations, loading screens, and even more.
  • Many new pets are being introduced including the Red Panda, Emperor Penguin, Ferret, Racoon, Hedgehog, and Shunk.
  • Quite a few animal-themed cosmetics are being added such as animal onesies and behavior emotes.
  • A new merchant, the Enchantsmith, is being implemented. This merchant will offer to randomly reroll enchantments on armor and weapons.
  • A lot of balance changes are also coming to many weapons, armor, artifacts, and enchantments. The focus is more so on buffs rather than nerfing these items.

FREE TREE TOP TANGLE MISSION IN MINECRAFT DUNGEONS

Along with the release of the Fauna Faire update on October 19th, players will also have a free new accessible level, Tree Top Tangle. Set in the Jungle Awakens biome, players will need to navigate the twisted boughs of an ancient tree filled with dangerous mobs to reach the end. With exclusive gear should you reach the end, this new Minecraft Dungeons level can reward players with the Soul Totem of Casting artifact, the Root Rot armor, and the Unique Black Spot armor. Which reward will you be aiming for first in Minecraft Dungeons?

THE TOWER GETS NEW CONTENT AND A FOUR-PLAYER ONLINE CO-OP

In Minecraft Dungeons, the Tower is an adventure dungeon that was added with the first season. This adventure offers a procedurally generated dungeon with increased difficulty, challenge, and reward with each floor you go up. Very similar to how mob towers work in regular Minecraft. The upcoming Fauna Faire update will be getting refreshed with new features including:

  • Online co-op multiplayer with up to four players
  • New floors and areas include Windswept Peaks, Cacti Canyon, and The End.
  • Two new bosses named the Tempest Golem and the Ancient Guardian.

Together, can you overcome the new challenges of the Tower? You can replay the Tower many times to improve your score and get some amazing rewards for your and your friend’s teamwork!

MINECRAFT DUNGEONS X MINECRAFT: BEDROCK EDITION SPOOKY COLLABORATION

Each year, Minecraft Dungeons features a Spooky Fall event with Halloween gear and unique challenges. This year is a bit elevated, with Minecraft: Bedrock Edition joining in on the fun! Through the Spooky Fall event, players will be able to earn the Hungriest Horror and Cloaked armor sets for Minecraft Dungeons. Additionally, Minecraft Dungeon players can earn the Minecraft Dungeons Heroes Skin Pack usable across both games. This Spooky Fall collaboration begins October 26th, alongside other terrifyingly exciting celebrations in Bedrock Edition and the Minecraft Marketplace!

MINECRAFT ENTITY WIZARD – CREATE YOUR OWN MOBS

With so many big announcements, Mojang Studios took a moment to show off an accessible and easy-to-use tool to allow any players to create their mobs. That tool is the Minecraft Entity Wizard. The Minecraft Entity Wizard contains many of the building blocks used on already existing mobs to allow players to modify their models’ different colors, dimensions, shapes, behavior, traits, and much more! Once you’re done creating a mob, you can then bring it into Minecraft to see them in action. I can already imagine some fun mob ideas from Explosive Enderman to Fiery Ender Dragons. What will you create with the new Minecraft Entity Wizard?

BATMAN AND FROZEN PLANET II DLC COMING TO THE MINECRAFT MARKETPLACE

The Dark Night is rising… again! This time, the neighborhood hero is taking vengeance in the streets of Minecraft. Being featured in a DLC collaboration between DC and Noxcrew, on October 18th a new Batman DLC will be coming to Minecraft. In this DLC, face off against iconic villains like the Penguin, Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, and more across locations featured in the DC universe. A free Batman set will also be available for use in the in-game Character Creator.

This custom collaboration map will be featured in the Minecraft Marketplace, free to download and play for all Minecraft: Bedrock Edition players!

HISTORY OF MINECRAFT LIVE EVENTS

MINECRAFT LIVE 2020 – CAVES, CLIFFS, AND GLOW SQUID

Minecraft Live events first began in 2020 after a planned Minecraft Festival event was placed on hold until 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In light of the events, Minecraft Live 2020 served as a virtual event to bring everyone together online to share news and hold fun interactive games and vote for new mobs. The Minecraft Live 2020 event was held on October 3rd, 2020, and brought with it an announcement and details about the Caves & Cliffs update.

The Caves & Cliffs update was announced as being split into two parts due to the amount of content in that update. Information about the Deep Dark and generation additions in this update was provided. Along with information on the update, Mojang opened the second-ever Mojang Minecraft mob vote contest.

MINECRAFT LIVE 2020 – MOJANG MINECRAFT MOB VOTE

The Minecraft Live 2020 mob vote was held between Mooblooms, Iceologers, and Glow Squids.

Minecraft Mob Vote 2020 - Minecraft Live 2020

  • Mooblooms – Cow-like creatures that would have spawned in Flower Forests, interacting with bees in some way.
  • Iceologer – These villager-like creatures would have spawned in Mountain biomes, throwing ice clouds at players.
  • Glow Squids – Found in Oceans in darker areas, illuminating them.

In the end, the winner of the Minecraft Live 2020 mob vote was the Glow Squid!

MINECRAFT LIVE 2021 – A WILD UPDATE WITH ALLAY

The second-ever Minecraft Live was quite an eventful one. Two updates were covered during this Minecraft Live, Caves & Cliffs Part II and a small look at The Wild Update planned for 2022. The brief glimpses at The Wild Update introduced information that the Deep Dark and warden, initially planned for the second Caves & Cliffs update, would be delayed until this update.

Fast forward to 2022 and we can definitely say the Deep Dark and Warden made an epic appearance in The Wild Update! It was also at this time that Caves & Cliffs Part II announced that new heights would be reached and that players would be able to dig deeper. This meant larger mountains and more complex caves, which admittedly Minecraft very much needed. Along with the powerful news of the latest Minecraft updates, the third-ever Minecraft mob vote contest was held.

MINECRAFT LIVE 2021 – MOJANG MINECRAFT MOB VOTE

The Minecraft Live 2021 mob vote was held between the Glares, Allays, and Copper Golems.

Minecraft Mob Vote 2021 - Minecraft Live 2021

  • Glare – A small ghost-like mob that would have alerted players that an area is dark enough for hostile mobs to spawn.
  • Copper Golem – A small robot-like golem mob, the Copper Golem would have been another use for copper, going around pressing copper buttons.
  • Allay – Fairy-like, the Allay was able to collect large amounts of an item that is given to it. It can also help with carrying dropped items in loaded chunks up to a stack at a time. Once in range of a player, it’ll drop the item but can also return items to a played note block.

In the end, the winner of the Minecraft Live 2021 mob vote was the Allay!

END OF MINECRAFT LIVE 2022 – FAVORITE PART?

Minecraft Live 2022 certainly brought a lot to get excited about! While the main attraction for players was the Minecraft 1.20 update with the Mojang Minecraft mob vote, we also got a lot of other great Minecraft information. This included updates about Minecraft Dungeons, its adventure pass, a new free level, and upgrades to the Towers level. Not to mention the exciting new looks at Minecraft Legends, an upcoming Minecraft game for 2023 featuring a legendary RPG adventure to fight off the evil piglins. Then we finally got to Minecraft 1.20 and the Minecraft mob vote, what we’d been waiting for!

The Mojang Minecraft mob vote featured a deadly battle between three great contenders. After two wild rounds of voting, the contest concluded with the Sniffer coming to Minecraft in 1.20. We celebrate the fantastic win of the Sniffer and with it, the future arrival of ancient seeds! Afterward, we learned about Minecraft 1.20 and learned about amazing new mobs and blocks coming. The Camel will offer a great method of riding with friends, while Bamboo blocks will add entirely new ways to build and create in Minecraft.

What was your favorite part of Minecraft Live 2022? Ours was a mix of the Minecraft mob vote and the Minecraft 1.20 news, along with seeing the Minecraft community come together to celebrate such a joyous game.
