Rust – Devblog 198 Summarization

This Month’s Devblog 198 – A Summarization for you: Chainsaw, SPAS-12, and More

Recently, the Rust Devblog 198 was released, featuring minor game changes, new weapons, graphical enhancements, improved sound, changes to the scientists, and finally, protection from Griefers when you’re not online.

Since the nail gun has caused too much frustration, this has now been adjusted. The nail gun is to offer new players an alternative to survival. However, one should have the opportunity to empty the magazine before being killed by opponents. Therefore, the rate of fire was increased. Another small change is the repair cost. Repairing an item is now much cheaper. The repair bank itself now does not pay any more wood costs and a repair costs only 20% of the crafting costs instead of the 50% as before. Also, the disappearance of the labeled signs during a server restart has been adjusted – these now disappear only by Wipes.

In addition to the chainsaw and the SPAS-12 shotgun – which we will discuss below – there is now Shotgun Shells aka Dregon’s Breath. These have bigger projectiles to make it easier for you to hit your opponents. On impact, these create a magnesium flame, slowing down your target and causing it to suffer damage over time. You can find this item in military crates or air drops.

CHAINSAW

You now have a new best friend in the game – the chainsaw. You can not just saw trees with the chainsaw. Through the skin and bones of your fellow players, the new chainsaw cuts like butter. As the fuel, you need simple fuel and turn on the saw with the right mouse button. As in real life, you will usually need several attempts, since starting the chainsaw has a 40% success rate. But remember that a chainsaw is very loud and can attract attention quickly. Chainsaws can be found in red toolboxes of the vehicle-based garbage piles.

Shotgun SPAS-12

You can also look forward to the SPAS-12 Shotgun. This is semi-automatic and has a 50% DPS (Damage Per Second) bonus to the Pump Shotgun. Unfortunately, this shotgun is not producible, but you can do it in air drops and boxes of tanks and helicopters.

Changes in the scientists

The scientists have gone to the military tunnels, however, they do not want to be disturbed there. Light sources, noises and fast movements draw attention to you. You should not get too close to them either. The scientists no longer run around aggressively, no longer gliding through fences and no longer banging each other off.

In addition, scientists are also spawning on vehicle-based garbage heaps, which are, however, quite “peaceful”. They explore the environment day and night with their Geiger counter. But these are also to be treated with caution – if you come too close, they pull out their M92.

Protection from Griefers

It can be very frustrating when you come online and the creations of the last game session have been completely disassembled by other players. In the long run, this is just fun! The new maintenance system should change that. If your resource-filled cabinet is destroyed, some or all of these resources will be used to protect all building structures connected to the building for up to 24 hours before disintegration. For that, you should also get a lock. Structures that are set after the destruction of the cabinet are excluded from protection.

Graphic embellishments and improved sound

A more general, beautiful representation of the world will greet you at the next game start. Shaders were redesigned, as well as the reflection of the water, the rendering of the trees and much more. There is also the function “World Reflections” in the graphics options. This changes the exposure in the game and makes the environment appear even more atmospheric.

You can expect beautiful oak trees and two new bushes – Glaucous Willow & Spicebush.

You can also look forward to new hairstyles and much more natural appearing hair colors.
