Through hard work, the team at Satisfactory has pushed the limits, upgrading the game engine to Unreal Engine 5. With it, this brings forth many exciting reworks and updates to systems and aspects of the game that really needed it. Not only this, but these changes also provide benefits to the stability and performance of Satisfactory, taking into consideration the array of hardware users may be using when enjoying the game. With most updates though, the developers advise taking a backup before updating to be safe!
Improved World Loading
World partitioning is a brand new system inside UE5, bringing the ability to easily stream and load worlds. You can expect smoother loading compared to the old tile-based system that was previously used.
Better Vehicle Physics & Sound Overhaul
If better world loading wasn’t enough, with Unreal Engine 5 comes a new physics simulation called Chaos. Through Chaos, while players will see little changes to vehicle automation, manual driving of vehicles has been entirely redone with improvements to their feel and usage for the many different vehicles in Satisfactory. This also reworks all vehicle sounds, fixing many of the issues that couldn’t be easily resolved before this implementation. Through this, players can expect an enhanced input system for controls, better quality, and consistency overall!
Anti-aliasing (TSR & FXAA), Nanite, and Lumen
On top of all of the powerful changes thanks to UE5, there are also many improvements made to the overall performance of Satisfactory. To start, better anti-aliasing for the game means better performance for any players on lower-end hardware. On top of that, with TSR support, players can choose the perfect performance option for them, from Performance, Balanced, Quality, and Insanity.
Lastly, Nanite and Lumen will play a powerful role in the improved graphics of UE5. Through a new and powerful way to render complex meshes for higher visual quality, players will now see improvements to a variety of objects. This includes rocks, cliffs, and conveyor items with more items potentially receiving the Nanite improvement in the future. Lumen will then play the part of improving lighting and reflections of the world you explore and the factories you create. It’s important to note that Lumen is disabled by default for your game, as it places a high demand on your game hardware. That said, you can enable it in the Satisfactory update settings, with different present options to choose the best visuals and performance for your device!
A mighty feature first released in the Satisfactory update 7, blueprints are seen a lot of love with this newest update on Experimental. If you ever remember incorrectly placing a blueprint, this first major feature changes this with dismantling. Through blueprint dismantling, players can now toggle it with “R” while in regular dismantle mode to instantly dismantle entire blueprints at once, drastically saving you time. On top of that, the building mode for blueprints has been improved with several useful features. These include a directional indicator and quick switch for blueprints which can be accessed by holding “E” while in build mode. With these, building your dream factories will feel a whole lot better!
Aiming to still support compatibility with worlds from Satisfactory update 7, small terrain changes have been performed but that isn’t the best part. In the 8th update, players will see several polished areas in terms of their visuals, atmosphere, and gameplay elements. The most significant overhauls can be seen in Titan Forest and Red Jungle, but this also includes smaller areas like Abyss Cliffs, Spire Coast, and some caves. With the atmosphere of areas, the developers focused on the lighting and sound in the world. This is greatly helped by Unreal Engine 5, improving areas like Grass Fields, the Northern Forest, Dun Desert, and many more areas. Then, the gameplay of these areas was also touched upon, introducing new Hog variants, the Cliff Hog and Nuclear Hog, and an update to the placement of creatures, hazards, and collectibles. Throughout your Satisfactory server world, you’ll feel like you’re on an entirely new planet as you uncover much of the world you love in an entirely new light!
On top of all the exciting new changes, Satisfactory is introducing new advanced game options. These settings will have the ability to drastically alter the game experience, whether you’re starting a new game or converting your existing save. Some of these options include flight mode where players can fly in-game, no build cost where buildables cost nothing, setting the game phase, and even respawn options such as players keeping everything upon dying. This can create an exhilarating new gameplay style for you and your friends in your next Satisfactory adventure!
Many quality-of-life improvements and changes are also included in this Satisfactory update. One major one is a change to how you set up a power grid, with the new Priority Power Switch to organize sections of your power grid with priorities. Then, with the new Power Tower, you can connect power lines over longer distances, coming in two versions, one with a ladder and platform perfect for ziplines and one that is more simple in design. To get you caught up on the other strong improvements in Satisfactory Experimental, we’ve included a list below:
