Sinomacrops

The Sinomacrops is a friendly little pterosaur creature capable of flight that is the perfect addition for your ARK: Survival Evolved server. This brightly colored butterfly-like dino can be tamed, adding amazing new gliding abilities into the game. We will be covering the behaviors, abilities, taming, and more of the wondrous Sinomapcrops when playing on your ARK server!

Behavior

Sinomacrops are of the species Sinomacrops bondei and their diet consists entirely of insects. When threatened by other creatures Sinomacrops will spread their wings revealing eyespots to confuse or scare predators.

While they are curious creatures, the Sinomacrops spook easily at the sight of a sprinting or jumping player. It is recommended to only walk while around them. Be wary though, as wearing Chitin Armor around these creatures will make them become aggressive towards that player.

Location

Sinomacrops live primarily in the jungle regions of Lost Island, most prominently in the lower middle region of the main island. You will often see these creatures both flying around in higher altitude areas.

You can see their locations on the map to the right to ensure you can find Sinomacrops on your ARK: Survival Evolved server.

To change to Lost Island on your ARK server:

1. Go on your ARK:SE control panel.
2. Enter the General Settings on the left-side.
3. Locate the “Mapname” option.
4. Set this to “Lost Island“.
5. Click “Save Changes” and restart the server to load Lost Island.

Abilities

You can enable the HUD for dinosaurs in ARK by holding the “R” key.

Utilities

1. Glides, hovers, and parachutes. Use these new abilities to let you fly fast and far in the ARK:SE Lost Island world.
2. Handy backpack! Any items the Sinomacrops carry will be reduced by 50% in weight. To access the backpack:
• PC – Hold R key
• Xbox – Hold X button
• PS4 – Hold Square button
3. Bug battler! Capable of taking down bugs like no other, the Sinomacrops also have a damage multiplier against those bugs.

Design and Colors

Coming in a variety of different colors, the Sinomacrops design consists of five regions that can each be different colors. The main body as region 0, the bottom of the wings as region 2, the belly as region 3, the wing spots as region 4, and the back as region 5.

As an ARK server admin, you can even set custom colors for each of these regions using the command cheat SetTargetDinoColor . For example, running the command cheat SetTargetDinoColor 4 76 would make the wing spots of that Sinomacrops peach colored.

Combat and Strategy

General

Sinomacrops are, by nature, very passive creatures and will not attack. That is unless you’re wearing Chitin Armor.

Wearing Chitin Armor around Sinomacrops, made of Chitin harvested from creatures such as the Dung Beetle, Meganeura, and Trilobite, will cause the creature to become very aggressive towards that player and with enough time, they can kill you.

Strategy

When battling Sinomacrops, the best strategy is to use melee weapons as well as utilizing your tamed creatures to take them down. As Sinomacrops are dangerous as a flock, if you engage in combat with a group of them, they should be dealt with immediately to avoid death.

Weapons

The most effective weapons against Sinomacrops are melee weapons, such as a wooden club, sword, and spear.

Weakness

None.

Taming

Sinomacrops are tamed by using Chitin, harvested from creature corpses.

When taming the creature, hold the Chitin and walk towards the Sinomacrops. Do not sprint or jump as the creature will fly away. Feed the creature and once fed, the Sinomacrops will fly away and you will need to follow it. You can use the Taming Track HUD for this! Enter your inventory and click the “Taming List” option where you will be able to track specific creatures, taming effectiveness and progress, and much more!

When you see hearts around the creature, it will begin to come back to you where you can feed it further. Repeating this process will eventually get you a tamed Sinomacrops!

Taming Difficulties

• When having another tamed creature near, Sinomacrops can get scared and leave.
• Sinomacrops cannot be tamed indoors. This includes buildings such as tents.
• As the Sinomacrops need to land during the taming process, there must be land nearby for it to land. When they are unable to land, they will get scared and leave.
• When you’re in jungle areas, it is recommended to use bug repellent to scare away bugs, so that they do not ruin the taming process for Sinomacrops.

Final Notes

Overall, the Sinomacrops are a very beautiful and small flying creature capable of taking you on fun flights to some insane new heights! With extremely useful abilities to be able to move so freely in the world of Lost Island, this dinosaur is an amazing addition to any tamed team!

Sinomacrops can now also be transferred to your ARK: Survival Evolved server on the DLC map Aberration!

How to transfer your dinosaurs between ARK:SE server maps:

1. Access a tribute terminal in ARK while your dinosaurs are near.



2. Click the “Creatures” tab. This will display nearby dinos.
3. Select the creature for transfer and press “Upload Creature”.
4. A prompt will appear. Click “Accept” to finish the upload.
5. Join the Aberration map and repeat steps 1 and 2.
6. Select your dino under “Uploaded Tamed Creatures”.
7. Lastly, click “Download Creature” to transfer that dinosaur.
