How to Create and Join a StarRupture Server

Hosting your own world ensures that your progress is safe and your connection is stable, allowing you to focus on expansion and survival.

What is StarRupture?

StarRupture drops players into a beautiful but hostile open world dominated by a constantly changing star system. As you explore, you will mine resources, build sprawling industrial complexes, and fight off waves of terrifying enemies. The core gameplay loop revolves around automation and defense. You aren’t just surviving; you are taming the planet.

How to Create a StarRupture Session

Hosting a dedicated server provides the best performance for your group, ensuring the world simulation continues even when you aren’t online. This is critical for maintaining large-scale automated factories.
 
Additionally, owning a server grants you the ability to fully customize gameplay settings. You can tailor the difficulty, resource abundance, and world rules to create the exact game experience you and your community want.

Setting Up Your Session

Once you have rented your Nitrado server and it is fully installed, follow these steps to initialize your world:

1. Launch StarRupture on Steam.
2. Navigate to Manage Server in the main menu.
   
3. Enter your Server IP:Port (you can find these details on your Nitrado Web Interface dashboard).
   
4. Set your Admin Password when prompted. A new screen will appear.
   
5. Select Change Password to set a specific Server Password (this is the password players will use to join). If no password is set, your server will be public for anyone with your server IP.
   
6. Select New Game, enter a Session Name, and click Start Game.
   
7. Wait a few seconds for a confirmation message to appear. Once you confirm it, you will be returned to the main menu.

Note: If you receive a message stating that “multiple servers are running on the given IP” or that a port is required, do not worry. This usually means the server is still processing internal startup tasks. Give it a moment and try again.

Changing Server Passwords & Settings

If you have already set a password and created a save file, the server will automatically load that save on future restarts. This disables the in-game “Manage Server” feature and moves it to our Nitrado web interface. To change your password or settings again, you must perform a manual reset:

1. Stop your server via the Nitrado Web Interface.
2. Navigate to Tools > File Browser in the interface.
   
3. Locate and delete the following two files:
   • PlayerPassword.json
   • DSSettings.txt
   
4. Restart the server.

Pro Tip: If these files do not appear in the File Browser immediately, wait approximately 15 minutes after the initial server installation or restart the server once more to force them to generate.

How to Join a StarRupture Server

Once your industrial empire is online, it is time to bring in the workforce.

1. Launch StarRupture and return to the main menu.
2. Select Join Game and then choose Dedicated Server.
3. Enter your Server IP:Port and the Server Password (the second password you set during the setup phase).
   
4. Connect and begin your adventure.
