Chernarus just got a lot more crowded. DayZ: Cool Edition arrived on Nintendo Switch 2 on August 20, 2026, making Switch 2 the fourth system where survivors pick over the same coastline. That raises an important question before you rent your server: can you all play together on one DayZ server? In this Nitrado guide, we break down where DayZ crossplay works in 2026, where it does not, and how to get your friends onto a single server. 🧟

Is DayZ Cross-Platform?

No, not in the way most games mean it. Bohemia Interactive has never opened DayZ up so that a Steam player, a PlayStation player, and a Switch 2 player can share one server. Each store’s version runs its own server list, and your friends need the same version you bought.

There is one exception – Xbox consoles and the Microsoft Store build of DayZ on Windows can meet on the same servers through Xbox Play Anywhere.

Xbox and Windows: What Play Anywhere Actually Does

Update 1.29 landed on April 8, 2026 with the native Xbox Series X|S version of DayZ, and it also made the game available on Windows through Xbox Play Anywhere.

The Microsoft Store version on Windows runs the Xbox build, not the Steam build. Bohemia restricts that Windows version to “Keyboard & Mouse” servers so console and PC input stay fair. You can play together across an Xbox console and a Windows PC, but only on those Keyboard & Mouse servers.

Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S survivors share servers with no restriction. Nobody in your group has to buy a new console to join you.

Steam and PlayStation Stay Separate

The Steam version has its own server list, so a Steam player cannot join an Xbox, PlayStation, or Switch 2 server, and the Microsoft Store build does not bridge across to Steam either. Steam is also the only version with official modding support, which is why modded DayZ servers are a PC affair.

PlayStation sits on its own as well. There is no native PlayStation 5 build yet, and Bohemia has said one is planned but not for this year, so PS5 owners run the PlayStation version through backward compatibility. PS4 and PS5 survivors therefore share the same server list.

How to Get Your Friends Onto One DayZ Server

Crossplay will not sort this out for you, so the practical route is to agree on one version before anyone buys, then run a server that group can reach. Your own server also means you set the loot, the rules, and the restart schedule instead of fighting strangers for a slot on an official server.

1. Match the version first: everyone buys DayZ on the same store, whether that is Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, or the Nintendo eShop.
2. Order the server for that version: Nitrado hosts DayZ servers for PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch 2. A server built for one version will not appear for the others.
3. Give it a findable name: set the server name in the Nitrado Web Interface under Settings > General, save, then restart the server.
4. Search the community list: start DayZ, press PLAY, then switch the server filter to COMMUNITY. Search for the name you set when connecting to a Nitrado DayZ server on console.

If the server does not show up right after a restart, give it about five minutes and search again. Newly restarted servers take a moment to register in the community list.

Pick One Version and Meet on the Coast

DayZ still keeps its worlds apart by version, and only the narrow Xbox and Windows arrangement crosses between them. The Switch 2 release adds a fourth island rather than a bridge. Settle on one version, rent the server that matches it, and the rest comes down to gear, weather, and whoever is watching the treeline. Spawning on the same server does not mean spawning together, so finding your friend in DayZ is the next job once everyone is in.
