DayZ RCON Guide: Commands, Tools & Access

DayZ RCON Guide: Commands, Tools & Access

Keeping a DayZ server running smoothly usually means stepping in from outside the game itself: kicking a player who’s breaking the rules, broadcasting a warning, or restarting the server without waiting for everyone to log off first. DayZ RCON access is what makes that possible, and it starts with two pieces of information: a port and a password. In this Nitrado guide, we’ll show you how to find your RCON credentials, connect with an RCON tool, and run a few basic commands to manage your server from outside DayZ.

DayZ RCON Credentials in General Settings (Expert Mode Disabled)

Your RCON port shows up in your server Dashboard. Scroll to the bottom of the page to find the ports section:

You can find your RCON password in the General settings section of your Nitrado Web Interface:

DayZ RCON Credentials With Expert Mode Enabled

If you have Expert Mode enabled, the General settings page won’t show your RCON password the same way. Instead, open the File browser:

Navigate to the battleye folder and open BEServer.cfg.

Inside BEServer.cfg, you’ll find both the RCON port and the password.

Connecting to Your DayZ Server With an RCON Tool

A port and a password don’t do anything by themselves. You need a program that turns both into a live connection to your server: an RCON tool, sometimes called an RCON client. DayZ runs its admin access over the BattlEye RCON protocol, the same system BattlEye uses for anti-cheat. Any RCON tool you use has to speak that protocol specifically.

Open a BattlEye-compatible RCON tool, then enter your port and password into its connection fields. Use the port from your Dashboard and the password from your Web Interface, or from BEServer.cfg if Expert Mode is enabled. A successful connection gives you a live console: a text window where you type commands and see the server’s response immediately. You never have to launch DayZ or pick a character first.

Look for a tool that’s actively maintained and built specifically for BattlEye RCON. Most show a connected player list, a running console log, and a command line in the same window, so you can watch your server and act on it in one place.

    DayZ RCON Commands

Once you’re connected, a handful of commands cover most day-to-day server administration:

    • players lists everyone currently connected, along with their BattlEye GUID.
    • say -1 <message> broadcasts a message to every player on the server.
    • kick <id> <reason> removes a specific player immediately.
    • ban <id> <duration> bans a player for a set time, or permanently if no duration is given.
    • #restart restarts the mission without shutting down the server process.
    • #shutdown shuts the server down completely.

These six cover the basics: seeing who’s online, talking to your players, and removing anyone causing problems. BattlEye RCON supports plenty more beyond this, including mission control and admin mod integration. The full list of DayZ admin commands covers that deeper syntax in full.

Stay in Control of Your DayZ Server

You now have two ways to find your RCON port and password, a tool that turns those credentials into a working console, and enough starter commands to handle a disruptive player or restart the server without logging in yourself. Treat that port and password with the same care as your server’s login, since anyone holding both can run every command you just learned. When you’re ready to go further, the full command list linked above covers the rest of what BattlEye RCON can do.

    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What Port Does DayZ Use for RCON?

DayZ doesn’t run RCON on one fixed port across every server. Nitrado assigns an individual RCON port to each rented server, and you’ll find yours listed in the ports section at the bottom of your server Dashboard, the same location covered earlier in this guide.

What Is RCON Used for on a DayZ Server?

RCON lets you administer your DayZ server without opening the game itself. Once you’re connected through an RCON tool, you can see who’s online, kick or ban disruptive players, and broadcast messages to the server. You can also restart or shut down the server process, all from outside the game.
