How to Set Up Automated Tasks for Your Server

How to Set Up Automated Tasks for Your Server

Uptime issues and random server crashes usually stem from memory buildup that builds over hours of continuous gameplay. In this Nitrado guide, you will learn how setting up automated tasks handles routine maintenance in the background so your server stays stable.

Why Schedule Automated Tasks for Your Server?

Continuous runtime can degrade server performance over time. Memory leaks, leftover cache, and extended uptime often cause unnecessary lag or crashes.

Automating regular restarts keeps your system fresh, clears unused assets, and maintains low latency for your players. Scheduled tasks also let you automate server starts, stops, and restarts. You can set a quiet late-night restart window to apply updates or save world data without interrupting active players.

Setting Up Automated Tasks in the Nitrado Webinterface

In only a few clicks you can set up routine events that’ll keep your server healthy and in optimal condition for the long run.

    Accessing the Automated Tasks Menu

Log into your Nitrado account, select your active service, and head over to your server’s web interface. Then navigate to Tools > Automated Tasks.

Navigate to Automated Tasks in the Tools Section

    Configuring Action and Interval

On the task setup menu, you can define exactly what action runs and when.

    • Time Interval: Select the exact hour and minute for your task to execute.
    • Date Interval: Pick the specific day, month, and weekday for the scheduled task.
    • Action: Pick whether your server performs a restart, start, or stop. Choosing a restart or stop opens an additional text field where you can write an automated notification message for your online players.

Click Add to lock in your settings. The system will handle the rest automatically.

Pro Tip: If you schedule automated restarts, pair them with automated in-game warning messages if your specific game supports command execution. Giving players a 10-minute warning before a planned restart prevents sudden disconnects and lost progress.

Recommended Scheduling Practices for Server Health

Overloading your system with frequent restarts can interrupt your group, while doing it too rarely impacts performance.

    • Daily Restarts: Schedule a daily restart during off-peak hours (like 4:00 AM) to clear system memory and maintain peak hardware efficiency.
    • Pre-Session Starts: If you run a private server that stops during off-hours, schedule an automated start 15 minutes before your community usually logs on.
    • Post-Event Maintenance: Schedule a full stop and save sequence after weekend events to secure game data.

    Master Your Nitrado Server Automation

Task automation gives you full control over your server environment without requiring your active oversight. Log into your Nitrado web interface today, configure your daily maintenance loops, and enjoy a lag-free gaming experience!
