Before you can make a splint in DayZ, you will need to gather a few items. You can use this list to find and gather the items needed to create a splint:

How to Craft a Splint

While holding rags, go into your player inventory and drag the short sticks to the left next to “Combine” at the bottom of your DayZ game screen to make a splint in DayZ:

Once the splint has been crafted, the splint can either be stored in your medical supplies or used right away if you or one of your friends has a broken limb. To use a splint, do the following:

1. Head to your DayZ character inventory and move the splint to your “HANDS“.
2. While holding the splint, hold down the use button for 10 seconds:
   • PC keyboard – Left Mouse Button
   • Xbox controller – X button
   • PlayStation controller – Square button
3. After those 10 seconds, the splint will visually appear on your character’s left leg. You’ll now be protected from running damage and becoming unconscious, and the broken limb will heal.

Healing depends on more than time passing. Your character needs strong health, blood, energy, and hydration before the bone knits, and the timer stalls until those stats recover. Once that’s met, a splinted leg typically heals in about 30 to 40 minutes, roughly half the time the same break takes with no splint. Until then, the splint’s real job is immediate: it stops the shock damage and unconsciousness risk of moving on a broken leg, so you can still walk or jog toward safety.

First Aid Pouch

The First Aid Pouch restocks your medical supplies fast. Found throughout the map alongside crates and ammo boxes, a single pouch hands you a Bandage, a Blood Test Kit, an IV Start Kit, and a Blood Bag Kit in one pickup. That Bandage matters for your splint kit too, since it’s one of the two rag alternatives the recipe accepts. Grab one whenever you find it before deciding if you still need to scavenge sticks or rags.

Alcoholic Tincture

An open wound can develop a Stage 1 Wound Infection if left untreated, stacking on top of whatever injury you’re already nursing, broken limb included. Alcoholic Tincture disinfects a wound and cures that Stage 1 infection directly, and it also pre-treats bandages and rags before you apply them. It’s most commonly found near medical facilities such as hospitals. Keep a bottle with your splint materials, since disinfecting before bandaging cuts down on how often infection slows recovery.

Bandages

Bandages stop active bleeding and cover an open wound, and that comes first: a bleeding wound outranks disinfecting, since blood loss kills faster than infection. Once bleeding is under control, tincture and bandaging become complementary steps rather than a strict order. Four Rags or a single Bandage handle the wrap, the same materials that go into a splint, so stocking up on rags covers both jobs. A fresh break often comes with bleeding that needs attention first.

Saline Bag

A broken limb rarely shows up alone, since the fall or hit that breaks your leg often costs you blood too, and blood loss kills faster than the fracture itself.
