How To Get a Join Code Valheim

Get Your Friends Into Your Valheim World

Your friends are ready to raid a swamp crypt or take down the next boss with you, but they can’t find your Valheim server on their own. The fastest way in is a join code: a short number your server generates that a friend enters on their own platform to connect right away. In this Nitrado guide, we’ll show you how to turn on crossplay, find your join code, and add a server to your favorites list.

Turn On Crossplay in Your Nitrado Web Interface

Before a join code appears anywhere in-game, your server needs Crossplay switched on. Without it, your server stays on the Steam backend, where only Steam players can see or join it, and no join code shows up.

    1. Open your Web Interface and select Settings > General.
    2. Scroll to the Crossplay toggle and enable it.
    3. Save your changes, then restart the server.

The General page also holds your server name, password, and world name, but the Crossplay toggle is the one that unlocks the join code. Turning it on moves your server onto the shared backend that lets Xbox and Microsoft Store players join alongside Steam today, with PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 players joining at the 1.0 launch.

Settings > General Crossplay toggle in the Web Interface

    Find Your Join Code

Once Crossplay is on and your server has restarted, connect to it and open the pause menu. The join code sits near the top, shown as a short number next to the label Join Code. Click it to copy the code, then send it to whoever you’re inviting.

Note: The join code changes every time the server restarts. Grab a fresh code and re-share it before starting a new session with friends.

You can also share your server’s public IP address and port instead of the code, if that’s easier for your group.

Join on Xbox, PlayStation 5, or PC

At the Valheim 1.0 launch on September 9, 2026, crossplay covers every platform: PC, Xbox, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. A friend on Xbox joins a crossplay-enabled dedicated server the same way a PC player does, provided both their client and your server have Crossplay turned on. From any platform’s Join Game menu, the join code (or your server’s IP) gets them in.

Important: Your client and server need to run the same game version to connect. If you update Valheim on your own device, update your server too, or friends on the current version won’t be able to rejoin until you do.

    Add the Server and Connect

Once a friend has your join code, adding the server takes four steps from the main menu.

    1. Select your character, click Start, then open the Join Game tab.
    2. Select Add Server, then enter the join code or the server’s IP.
    3. Once added, select the server from your favorites list.
    4. Click Connect to join your friends.

If the code alone doesn’t get them in, a friend on PC can also try connecting to a Valheim game server directly by IP.

That’s your join code found, Crossplay turned on, and a friend added to your favorites list, ready to connect from PC, Xbox, or PlayStation 5. Once everyone’s in, see our guide to Valheim admin commands and controls to manage your growing group as you push toward the Deep North together. Your hall is ready for company! ⚔️
