How to Set Up a Valheim Crossplay Server (PC, Xbox, PS5)

With the latest Valheim update, your server can now support Xbox and PlayStation 5 crossplay. Enabling this is super easy and straightforward, only taking a few minutes to set up. Whether you’re hosting with us or self-hosting, you have the ability to have crossplay. With this in mind, we’ve created this Nitrado guide to show you how to set up crossplay on your own Valheim server 👏

Enabling Crossplay

1. Head towards your Nitrado Web Interface and stop the server.
2. Navigate to Settings > General on the left.
   
3. Locate Crossplay and toggle that, then click Save Changes.
   
4. Start up the server.

 
By enabling crossplay on your Valheim server, Xbox and PlayStation users can join.

Self-Hosted Servers

For those who run a self-hosted server, crossplay should be enabled by default. If it isn’t, then you will need to edit the start_headless_server.bat file and add -crossplay in the parameters. If you want more information about this, click here.

Joining the Server (Xbox & PS5)

Console players can connect to a crossplay-enabled dedicated server using an invite code.

1. Launch Valheim on Xbox or PS5, then select your character.
2. Click Join Game and Join via Code, then enter the Invite Code.
3. Press Connect and enter a password if prompted.
4. If successful, you should be connected to the server!

Crossplay Gameplay Considerations

• Mod Compatibility: Console clients cannot run mods (like BepInEx). Crossplay servers should remain unmodded or use strictly server-side mods to avoid connection errors.
• Dynamic Join Codes: Join Codes reset every time the dedicated server restarts.
• Character Progression: Character saves remain tied to each player’s platform account, but all world progress and structures remain safely stored on the server.
