Mojang Minecraft Mob Vote – Sniffer, Rascal, and Tuff Golem
MOJANG MINECRAFT MOB VOTE – A VOTE FOR NEW MOBS
Minecraft will be getting a new mob and it’s up to you to decide which mob will be next! The choice this year is between three powerful contenders. The “Sniffer” hatched from eggs, the “Rascal” found deep underground, and then the “Tuff Golem”, built by a player and doubling as a statue. The Mojang Minecraft mob vote will be held before the upcoming Minecraft Live 2022 event, giving players 24 hours to vote. Once the voting ends, the Minecraft Live 2022 event will start to announce the winner!
During Minecraft Live events, Mojang Studios takes the time to showcase everything upcoming for Minecraft. Exciting new features, updates, and quite often new mobs like the Phantom are just some of the things that get announced, eventually flying into the world of Minecraft. This year is no different, featuring the future of Minecraft, Minecraft Dungeons, and Minecraft Legends updates, and this year’s winner of the mob vote. Read below to learn more about the Minecraft mobs coming, how they look, what they do, and how you can vote for your favorite mob that may soon be added in a future update for your Minecraft server! ⬇️
PREVIOUS MINECRAFT MOB VOTE BATTLES
Minecraft Live 2022 will feature the fourth time Mojang Studios has opened a mob vote contest.
MINECON EARTH 2017 – FIRST MOB VOTE
The first time Minecraft players could vote was in MINECON Earth 2017, during the great battle between the “Barnacle”, the “Phantom”, “The Great Hunger”, and “The Wildfire”. The Barnacle was a squid monster of the ocean depths. The Great Hunger was a lizard-like that could sink into the ground. The Wildfire was a hovering inferno that used shields to defend itself from attacks. The last Mojang Minecraft mob vote contestant was the Phantom, known as “The Monster of the Night Skies”. The event featured a 90-minute interactive live stream where the Aquatic update was announced along with the first mob vote. This mob vote was held in a Twitter poll during the event. The Phantom won that year, bringing an extremely unique flying undead hostile mob to Minecraft.
MINECRAFT LIVE 2020 – SECOND MOB VOTE
Several years later in 2020, Minecraft planned to hold a Minecraft Festival. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival was pushed back until 2022. This change resulted in a new virtual event being created, Minecraft Live 2020. In the event, the Caves and Cliffs update was announced and the second mob vote contest was opened up. This mob vote featured the Moobloom, the Iceaologer, and the Glow Squid in two rounds of voting. The Moobloom, a honey/flower cow was the first mob eliminated. After the second round with the ice-like villager losing, the Glow Squid came out on top. This resulted in the first glow-in-the-dark mob being added to the Minecraft world with the Caves and Cliffs update.
MINECRAFT LIVE 2021 – THIRD MOB VOTE
The next year in 2021, Minecraft Live returned! Similar to Minecraft Live 2020, this event included a major update announcement for “The Wild Update” and a mob vote contest. This mob vote put three mobs against each other, the “Glare”, the “Allay”, and the “Copper Golem”. Just like the Minecraft Live 2020 event, the 2021 event also featured two rounds of voting. The ghost-like Glare and the small robot-like Copper Golem did not stand a chance, losing to the Allay in both rounds. With the vote decided, the Allay was brought into Minecraft in the Wild Update – a helpful fairy companion to assist players in their Minecraft adventure.
MINECRAFT MOBS IN THE FOURTH MOB VOTE
THE TUFF GOLEM
The first mob in this contest is the mighty “Tuff Golem”. This loyal golem mob is created by the player and offers a neat customization feature. If a wool block is included while building it, it’ll wear a cloak matching that color. Quite a stylish golem! Described as a statue that can hold and display any item, the Tuff Golem can wake to move around holding that item or pick up an item to hold. Once the Tuff Golem is done for the day, it’ll return to the spot it had awoken from turning back into a statue.
BENEFITS
- A living statue decoration.
- Displays any item in Minecraft.
- Can carry an item for players.
DISADVANTAGES
- There are fewer benefits to this mob.
- A Tuff Golem can only hold one item at a time.
THE SNIFFER
Next in the Mojang Minecraft mob vote, Mojang Studios introduced us to a unique ancient mob. This mob, known as the “Sniffer”, is a mob that must be hatched from sniffer eggs. To find those eggs, players would be able to locate them in chests in underwater ruins. Once a Sniffer has hatched, this grand creature can assist players in finding ancient seeds to grow a variety of new types of plants. Yes, this would also mean the introduction of all new plants to the world of Minecraft!
BENEFITS
- Found using a unique method – hatching a Sniffer from eggs.
- If the Sniffer is added, ancient plants will also be added.
- It helps with locating ancient seeds.
DISADVANTAGES
- A Sniffer can only assist with finding ancient seeds.
- Limited abilities to help a player.
THE RASCAL
The last mob up for vote for the next Minecraft update is the Rascal. Rascals appear as wanderers, providing players with hints to help search for them while deep underground below y=0. If a Rascal is found three times in a row, it will then give that player an item. What treasures do you think the Rascal could be holding?
BENEFITS
- A fun mob mechanic – searching for the Rascal through hints.
- Might provide rare items/treasures after finding a Rascal three times.
DISADVANTAGES
- Finding a Rascal three times for an item may become tedious.
- No other benefits to the Rascal aside from getting an item.
FAVORITE MOB FROM THE MOJANG MINECRAFT MOB VOTE
In this contest, each mob offers a joyful touch to Minecraft that is sure to add various new features. The Tuff Golem is a fantastic new mob and decorative piece for all Minecraft homes. While the Sniffer may very well bring about a new way of farming through ancient seeds. And of course, we can’t forget about the Rascal, opening the possibility of finding rare items by playing hide-and-seek!
After consulting with the rest of the Nitrado team, we’ve concluded that the Sniffer is our favorite. Not only do I find the Sniffer completely adorable, but the Sniffer also has the most utility. That utility is ancient seeds, seeds that would be added alongside the mob. Ancient seeds give way to new types of farms and plants that can greatly enhance the game with brand-new recipes and decor. This benefits everyone whether you’re just starting or have been playing in the same world for years. In our opinion, the Sniffer is the best mob to vote for and with it, brings ancient seeds that can be enjoyed by all!
HOW TO VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE MOB
In previous mob vote events, voting was held through a Twitter poll. This year the voting will be different, as Mojang Studios is hosting the voting on their platforms. Voting on Mojang’s platform means new and fun ways to vote. One of those voting methods is directly inside Minecraft, on a custom carnival-themed multiplayer map on a Minecraft Bedrock Edition server. Designed specifically for this special mob vote event, you’ll be able to join and pull a lever in-game to cast your vote. Not only that, but you’ll be able to play many fun mini-games in the carnival!
The Mojang Minecraft mob vote will start on October 14th, 12 PM EDT and end on October 15th, 12 PM EDT.
To cast your mob vote on Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, Mojang Studios mentions:
“Make sure you have the latest version of Minecraft: Bedrock Edition installed on your device. Launch the game and click on the Minecraft Live button located in the bottom left corner of the main screen. Now comes the hard part – picking which mob to vote for!”
If you don’t have Bedrock Edition or can’t play Minecraft this weekend, you can still vote. You can open the launcher and vote directly on the launcher or visit Minecraft.net/live to cast your vote.
WINNER OF THE MOJANG MINECRAFT MOB VOTE
The battle in the Mojang Minecraft mob vote 2022 was quite intense! Over 3.5 million votes were cast to determine the winner, with the winner being decided over two rounds. In the first round, the Tuff Golem fought valiantly but was ultimately eliminated due to having the least votes. This left only two mobs remaining, the Rascal vs the Sniffer. Another wild round started but it was already over with a knockout. The winner, with over half the total votes in this year’s Minecraft mob vote, is the adorable Sniffer!
The Sniffer is now set to arrive in Minecraft in a future update and this means ancient seeds are also coming! Our team loves the Sniffer and is glad to see it coming, but we do still dream of having the rest join Minecraft one day. The Tuff Golem would have provided an extremely unique decoration that moves around while the Rascal would have given the best hide-and-seek game with a treasure included. Maybe one day we might see these mobs get included.
