Changing, Restoring or Reinstalling a Gameserver

Changing, Restoring or Reinstalling a Gameserver

Nitrado Banner Rent your own server at nitrado.net

Please be sure to stop the server before making any changes.

    What Happens When I Change/Restore a Backup/Reinstall a Game?

When you initiate a game change, reinstall, or backup restore, your server’s IP address and server settings may be altered (and possibly lost). The process can take anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the game.

Note: We strongly encourage you to refresh the Nitrado Web Interface if the server status isn’t changing after waiting for a bit. If it appears to be stuck, refresh and wait. Contact our Support Team if you have any concerns!

Changing a Game on a Game Server

You are allowed to change the game on your server at any time, at no additional cost. Changing a game will keep all previously saved data on the server, but some settings may need to be reapplied if you switch back to a previous game.

    • Log into your game server’s Web Interface.
    • Click “SWITCH GAME,” and your screen should look like this:

      Switch Game Screen
    • Select the new game you wish to play and click “Install” or “Change” (you’ll see “Change” if the game was switched previously).
This function is restricted on "Basic Public Servers," as not every game is supported on these types of servers. If you want to switch to a game that may not be supported by a "Basic Server," you should rent a Standard Public Server.

Reinstalling a Game on a Game Server

If you ever want to reinstall a game on your server, you can do so easily through our Web Interface.

Note: We recommend backing up your saves before reinstalling the game, unless you wish to wipe the data. Please refer to our FTP guide to access the files and locate each game's save data, which is all you should need to back up. Some users may also wish to back up other files.

Follow these steps to reinstall a game:

    • Log into your game server’s Web Interface.
    • Click “SWITCH GAME,” and your screen should look like this:

      Reinstall Game Screen
    • Locate the game you currently have installed and click “Reinstall.”

Restoring a Backup for a Game

Our servers automatically create a backup of your game server every 24 hours (around 5-7 am, based on the server’s local timezone).

If you ever wish to restore a backup:

    • Log into your Web Interface.
    • On the left side panel, locate the “Tools” section.
    • Click “Restore Backup,” and your screen should look like this:

      Restore Backup Screen
    • Click on the “Restore” button to revert your server to the preferred day.

The server will load your data and restore it to its previous state.

NOTE: Restoring a backup will change your IP address, and your settings will revert to those of the restored day.

    Questions?

If you’re ever unsure about restoring a backup or reinstalling a game, please send a support ticket to Nitrado Support, and we will gladly assist you.
