Dune: Awakening Crossplay – Explained

With the release of Dune: Awakening on consoles, many players might be asking is there crossplay? The short answer is no, except for Xbox & Windows PC Store. The harsh sands of Arrakis are primarily experienced by users on their respective platforms. The Current State of Crossplay

As of right now, there is no crossplay between PC (Steam) and consoles. Additionally, there isn’t any between PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Everyone stays on their own platforms when playing Dune: Awakening. This means that if you’re playing on Steam, you will only be able to interact with other users on that platform – the same applies to consoles.
 
However, there is one exception to this: Xbox Series X|S has crossplay support for Windows PC Store. This is the only way for anyone on a computer to play with another player on a console. With this Dune: Awakening cross-platform experience, you can invite your friends from the couch while they’re on the PC.

Funcom’s Future Plans for Crossplay

If you’re disappointed by the current crossplay support barriers, then there is good news on the horizon. Funcom has officially confirmed that broader support is coming to Dune: Awakening in a post-launch update. This means that they have plans for cross-platform support with PC (Steam) and consoles.
 
The only downside right now is there no set release date or promised timeline for full crossplay support. Due to this, we highly recommend coordinating your platform choices with friends, if you plan on playing together. The only option currently available is Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC Store.

Private Servers & Platform Restrictions

For those looking to build their own communities, private servers are currently available to rent through Nitrado. However, it is crucial to understand how server hosting interacts with the current multiplayer restrictions.
 
Currently, private servers are purchased on a per platform basis. This means players can only join a Dune: Awakening server that is hosted for their specific platform. You cannot rent a single server and invite your friends from PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam to play together. If you are renting a server for your guild, make absolutely sure you select the correct platform during checkout to ensure your friends can actually join you.
