Feed the Beast Launcher – Minecraft Guide

Feed the Beast Launcher Minecraft Guide – Introduction

When it comes to adventure, Minecraft is filled to the brim with it. Players can cross deadly ravines, explore deep into caves, take on bosses, and gather treasures. While there are already so many amazing experiences in Minecraft, the regular game isn’t the end of it. Through the use of Feed the Beast Launcher and its modpacks, you can take the game and Minecraft servers to another level of exploration and fun!

Feed the Beast Launcher - Minecraft gameplay

Feed the Beast originated as a challenging modpack map that featured many technical mods for players to use, feeling similar to Skyblock. On the map, players began in a void world on a small platform where they must overcome challenges to grow and survive. Feed the Beast eventually grew into a larger community, launcher, and a lot of different modpacks created by the FTB Team. To this day, Feed the Beast modpacks are some of the most popular Minecraft modpacks.

    Changing Modpack Versions

Like many of our favorite video games, sometimes modpacks may release an update that is buggy or just isn’t what you’re looking to play. When that happens, it can lead to frustration seeing something you enjoyed be changed. Thankfully, with modpacks, you’re not forced to play the latest version and can switch at any time. Below, we’ll show you how to switch between modpack versions so that you can play the version you prefer:

    1. Head to your Minecraft Feed the Beast Launcher and access your modpack “Library”.
    2. Next, in the library, click on the modpack that you wish to change versions for.
    3. Within the modpack, at the top you’ll see “Versions”. Click on that option to view the different versions of that modpack.

    7. After only a few moments, that download will finish. Proceed back to your game library and you can now start that modpack on the version you installed!

Adding More Mods to a Feed the Beast Modpack

During your amazing journeys in modded Minecraft, you or your friends may feel that a particular mod is missing that would be useful. When that happens, with the Feed the Beast Launcher you can add more mods. The additional mods you install can include anything from a simple minimap to new technical blocks to use.

It’s important to keep in mind though that if you add blocks that change generation, these mods will often only work in newly generated chunks after they’re installed. Now that you’re ready to install more mods to your installed modpack, you can follow these steps:

    1. Jump over to your Feed the Beast app’s modpack library.
    2. Then, locate the modpack you’d like to add mods to and select it.
    3. Next, on that modpack’s page, click the “Mods” tab.
    4. adding extra mods to a Feed the Beast modpack

    5. Within that tab, you can click the “Add more mods” option to install additional mods. From that menu, you can use the search bar to find nearly any mod.
    6. Feed the Beast adding additional modpack mods

    7. After finding the mods you’d like to add, press the “Install” option next to them.
      1. It’s important to keep in mind that the mods will need to be up-to-date for the modpack you’re installing them on. If mods are outdated or not compatible with the modpack, they will fail to load.
      2. Additionally, if you’re running a modded Minecraft server with that modpack, you’ll need to now download and install those mods to your game server too. This is required for Minecraft since the mods on a server and game must match.
    8. Lastly, once the mods have been installed, start the modpack to have fun!

Editing a Feed the Beast Launcher Modpack Settings

Once a modpack has been installed, you can edit various settings for your computer. This can help with performance so that you can enjoy the FTB modpack to the fullest! Follow these steps to learn how to edit a modpack’s settings and what each setting does:

    1. Enter the Feed the Beast app and access your modpack “Library”.
    2. In the library, click on the modpack and press the “Settings” icon at the top.
    3. Feed the Beast editing modpack settings

    4. You can now begin editing these settings for your modpack:
    5. FTB modpack options - how to edit them

      • Name – Sets a new name for the modpack. This isn’t necessary but, if you have trouble remembering a modpack name, this can be a great option.
      • Window Width & Window Height – Determines the resolution of the modpack as you play it in Minecraft. You can press the “Resolutions” button to see your computer’s supported options.
      • Java Version – Allows you to change the version of Java the modpack will run. By default, the latest recommended version of Java will be running.
      • Java Runtime Arguments – This field allows you to add custom Java runtime arguments to your modpack startup. For example, you could add “-Xmx4g” to this field to set the modpack to use 4GB of your PC’s RAM/memory.
      • Instance Memory – Changing this option increases and decreases the amount of memory your computer can use for this modpack. For example, some modpacks are set to 6.00GB by default. You can change this to any amount as long as it does not exceed the available RAM on your computer.
      • Enable cloud save uploads – If you have an active MineTogether subscription, a mod that allows you to do things like have a friends list and send server invites, you can enable this feature for cloud saves across any supported device.
      • Actions:
        • Open Folder – Opens the folder containing that modpack installation.
        • Share Modpack – Features sharing the modpack to other players. This is especially great if you have made changes to the modpack.
        • Delete – Removes that modpack install off the Feed the Beast Launcher.
    6. After making changes, go back to your game library and start the modpack!
