How to Change the Map Seed in Minecraft

How to Change the Map Seed in Minecraft

Changing the seed in Minecraft allows you to create a unique world with different landscapes, structures, and resources. From bubbling lava-filled worlds that seem like they’re entirely underground to vast ocean worlds where little land appears. Whether you want to start fresh with a new world or recreate a specific seed you’ve found online, this Nitrado guide will walk you through the process of changing your seed in Minecraft.

    Understanding Seeds in Minecraft

Seeds determine the Minecraft world generation and can consist of numbers, characters, or both. Whether you want a spawn point near a village or that perfect speedrun setup, you can do that with seeds. Keep in mind that not all seeds are the same across different game versions. For example, if you use “thebestspawn” for one world in 1.21 and compare it to a world in 1.8, it will be wildly different.

Using a Seed in Your Minecraft Server

We highly recommend creating a brand new world with your seed instead of deleting your existing world. This can easily be done through the web interface – in just a few minutes you will have a new world.

    1. Head towards your Nitrado Web Interface for the Minecraft server.
    2. Stop the server, then navigate to Settings > Config Files on the left.

    3. Select server.properties and locate level-name= & level-seed= in the file.
    4. Change the world name, then enter your preferred seed.

    5. Click Save Changes at the top and start up the server to generate the world.
    6. Join the server and use the /seed command to verify it’s the correct seed.

If you want to use a new seed in your existing world, then you would want to keep the level-name= option the same, only editing the seed. We strongly encourage you to take backups if you do that, which is done through the World Manager from the Dashboard.

    Conclusion

Knowing how to change the seed of your Minecraft server at Nitrado opens up the possibilities for you to experience endless different worlds in the company of your friends. From enjoying the most recently added biome or exploring ancient cities and ruins. The possibilities for your new adventure are endless! Gather your friends and choose the world you want to explore today on your own Minecraft server!
